Connar Groen Junior Writing for everyone The Mission Trip to California. Have you ever wanted to go somewhere you have not been or wanted to go to the same place again? Well, that is why I went on a mission trip to California with the 1st Baptist Church. For about the last two years now I have been going to the 1st Baptist Church youth group every Wednesday night. We would always do fun activities during youth group and most importantly have a lesson about the Bible and God. As the year got closer to the summer of 2014 our youth group planned on going on a mission trip to Orange County, California. The church had the trip planned through the 21st of July to the 29TH of July. And at the beginning of July are group leader started getting everything planned out and what he did is …show more content…
get everyone plane tickets and made sure everyone had the tickets paid for.
Then are youth group made a list on what we needed to bring and also made a schedule of when everyone needed to be at the church. As the time got closer I could not wait to go because it would be my first time flying and I would get to see the ocean for the first time also. So on the last Wednesday before we would leave for the mission trip we went over everything and made sure that everyone knew what was going on and what activities we would be doing during the mission trip. We discussed what we would be doing for our fun day and where we would be staying. We then talked about what time everyone needed to be at the church in the morning that we would leave for the trip and what time we needed everyone's bags packed the night before. The next we morning the youth group members and the parents all arrived at the church, we packed our bags in the van, said a prayer and we
then everyone said goodbye to their parents and we all got in the van and left. As we got to the airport I was excited and yet was nervous at the same time that I would be flying to California. When we all got to the stand and the attendant weighed all are bags and sent them to get put on the plane. Are group had to wait about an hour in the waiting place to board the plane and soon after that we left and we were flying. A the plane arrived at L.A.X I thought it was cool looking out the window and seeing the city below. the same process happened through the airport but backwards and we all were soon going to to the college we would stay at for a week. As our group arrived at the university we were given a tour of the place and had free time for the night. The next day our group went to our work site, and there we met linda. She was a librarian at the library we would be working at for the next five days. What she assigned us to do is take all these books from the basement and bring them upstairs and set up a book store outside. It took about a day to set up and we had the sale for about a day and a half. then on the last day to took down what was left and during that short period of time we raise over 800 dollars. I think 800 dollars was awesome and it all went to this book club to help children get books to read . And after all that was done you feel good about yourself. Your feel like you got something done for a good cause and I was proud of that. On our fun day our group went to an amusement park, we had a lot of rides to choose from both normal rides and water park rides. it was one of the best parks I have been to. The day after our fun day we had the last work day. I t was kind of sad because we wouldn’t see some of the people we met again. The next day was our last day in California and that to was a sad day, because all that great people we met would be leaving and we would all be going home. On our way back to the airport we all still didn’t want to leave because we all had a good time in L.A. but it was time because I wanted to go home but then I didn’t. so away we got on the plane we took one last look at L.A before the plane took off and before you know it we were gone. When the plane got back to Soux Falls, we all got ready to leave the plane and when we got outside it was colder windier and we wanted to go back but we couldn’t.
It was back in the summer of 2004 when all was calm. The trees filled w/ dry green leaves, the grass barely green as patches of yellowness overcame its dried burned look, dandelions arose in monstrous amounts as the white cotton-like blooms of a dandelion flutter in the midst of an arid breeze, and visions of heat waves could clearly be noticed along a paved street on a clear afternoon. Yep, this truly was mid summer. But I do prefer summer over winter any day of the year. Around the hottest time of the year, a.k.a. middle of July, my church travels on a mission trip over to the Appalachia Mountains to help people in poverty rebuild their homes. I, among 14 other youths and leaders enjoy this yearly mission trip. Only to leave one week after my birthday the ASP (Appalachia Service Project) crew fled the town of Glen Ellyn and headed east towards the mountainous Appalachia Mountains. The mission had not only been to help people in distress but to also give an insight on personal faith, life, love, friendship, and a better understanding on why we are really here and why we have chosen to come here, as certain personality traits that we possess are revealed throughout the trip. I do remember last year's trip very clearly, and we've had just a few major dilemmas, but this year just clearly out does last year in every way, shape and form.
Bright sunshine to frigid snow, all within hours of travel. A place for everyone, all ages, all cultures, all types of people. When choosing a place to live, we decide on the one that pleases us and our busy lives. For those who enjoy constant activity and sunny warm beaches, California and Florida tend to be on their list. Once learning all that California has to offer, they will jump on the decision to pack their bags and head for their new home. California offers exploration and something new every day. “If they can’t do it in California, it can’t be done anywhere.” -Taylor Caldwell (Fun Quotes about California by Stephen Frank, www.capolitical news.com)
This experience was really out of my comfort zone. It was hard to be an outsider and not prepared for what was to come and not speaking one of the languages used to understand the entire service. This service learning project gave me the opportunity to try a new church and gain a deeper respect for a different religion. Everyone at the service was very educated on speaking the sacred texts and participating in the rituals practiced. I hope to have gained a better understanding for those who are new to religions and are nervous to come to a worship service. I will make more of an effort to be welcoming and accommodating to those who are new to our church.
In my paper I will talk about my visit to The Community Church at Murphy's Landing (CCML). I have chosen this particular Church because it is a family church type and my neighbor goes there and she encouraged me to go with her. I went there with my neighbor on April 6, 2014.This church is an appropriate for this assignment because the people there are welcoming me with an open heart and they are willing to help and provide me with information. When I visit the Church’s site I read these words “We know visiting a new church can be intimidating. But, we want to help you to be as comfortable as possible when and if you join us”. The people gather in the church weekly to glorify God in joyful worship. The expressions of worship on CCML take many forms a prayer, a hymn of reverent awe, a guitar ringing with a chorus of praise, or a warm handshake and a welcoming smile. Their weekly services begin at 9:30 each Sunday at church. Also, they have weekly podcast if anyone wants to listen online. They have many types of services for parents, kids and students. People at CCML were so friendly; they gather around me and start welcoming me, one by one. People there introducing themselves to me, one after another and provide me with their contact information and help. Then we start talking about the church services and Christianity in particular. The mission of CCML was knowing, growing and loving. They seek to live out our mission by worshipping together as a local community of believers, growing in spiritual maturity through discipleship, education, and small groups, caring for one another within the context of the larger church body and small groups, and Communicating the love of Christ to our world, both through local outreach and global mis...
It was strange, I had always wanted to experience what a mission trip was like. Although, when I thought about actually pursuing to go on one I would once again shove the thought in the back of my brain, in hopes of forgetting about it entirely. Until one day, I was reintroduced to the idea once again. My friend Nick and I were in Math class one day when Nick said, “
During the 1600s to 1700s, the Spanish were settling Texas. They did this by building missions and presidios throughout the land. The purpose was to keep the French out and to change the Indians' ways of life. Some of these missions failed and some succeeded. All in all they were closed after years of trying to change the Indians.
The two top candidates for a minor league team in the California League are Concord in the San Francisco Bay Area and Mission Viejo along the coast by Los Angeles. There are reasons why neither of these cities don’t already have teams. Concord is barely out of range of the Major League teams in the San Francisco Bay Area. There is a fear that if Concord isn’t a Giants or A’s affiliate it won’t draw a big enough crowd. Mission Viejo is along the shore and there is a worry that a team wouldn’t be able to compete with people going to the beach. Each of these cities Urban Areas have a population over 600,000. There is enough people that a correctly managed and marketed team should be successful.
I visited the Mission San Luis last Early November for my Primary Site paper. Mission San Luis was the capital of the Western Spanish missions and Appalachian nations from 1656 to 1704. This area is situated west 2 miles away from the capital. The reason I picked Mission San Luis as my primary site is because of its interesting history, not only because of the very close proximity of it to my apartment. Its great that its about a five minute drive to the Mission from my house, but because the history of the place is so vast, I had to pick it. There were two different groups of people at the Mission at the time which makes it such an interesting place. You get to see how Appalachians and Spanish people interacted and got along to make the Mission San Luis what it is today.
I spent every spring and summer in middle school doing mission work and community service. I loved the opportunity that it gave me to build relationships and share my beliefs with people I didn’t know. Little did I know that this would pave the way for a life-changing experience that I would encounter one day. Each spring my church would host a missionary event called “The Ignite Project.” I felt an urge to join the group, recognizing that it was a calling to profess my faith in Jesus. These mission trips helped me to go out
In 1849, the California Gold Rush attracted the massive people immigrated to gold finding from all over the world. The gold-seekers travelled by the ship boarding in San Francisco port or by feet to leave their hometown and families from west because they believed that they could gain more money and had a better life than their original place. In the early days of California was an unknown place however after the gold-seekers arrived to California growth rapidly with crowded population. Later, the Rocky Mountains establish to be a state which called California. The gold-seekers came over to California because they wanted to achieve their goals for a better life, as they experienced by their hard working and created lots of the potential development in this gold place.
It has been quite a while since I’ve seen you. I believe I am in fairly good health. Even so, I recently obtained health coverage and would like to have a few things reviewed. I will make an appointment with you ensuring enough time has passed for you to receive lab results. Below you will find items I would like to request/discuss:
“Hotel California” by The Eagles has been the recipient of much speculation since its release in 1976. Although many other interpretations exist including some which claim this song to be referencing drugs, much evidence suggests that “Hotel California” is, at least partly, making a statement about the lifestyle of drug and alcohol users particularly in the large cities of California. As with many songs, duality of meaning exists in “Hotel California.”
Our goal as a church was to go into another community and share the gospel with them but we did it in a unique way, through community service. Together we volunteered in a trailer park to clean up trash, fix gardens, redo roofing, paint and clean trailers. While doing this I meet an old woman who appreciated what we were doing for her and her home and wanted to know why. This gave my small group and I an opportunity to help guide her to Christ and when we left not only did we give her a better and beautiful community and trailer to live in, but we left her with a bible and a thirst to learn more about our God. This experience was important to me because it showed how one can truly make a difference in people’s lives just through serving
Since 1848 to the present, California has had strong periods of representing the American Dream with its egalitarian advances and times of overwhelmingly democratic positions. Also, California was once a place for economic opportunity, attracting people from all over the nation. Since 1990, however, California has witnessed a reverse migration. Once a land of hope and opportunity, California has slowly been turning into a land of despair.
In Matthew 28:19-20, Matthew records Jesus’ last words to His disciples these verses have become known as “The Great Commission.”Since, the giving of the Great Commission followers of Christ has left their own culture in order to engage another with the saving message of the Gospel. Numerous books, articles and blogs have been written on the subject of World Evangelization or Missions. One such book on missions is called, “The Changing Face of World Missions: Engaging Contemporary Issues and Trends” this book was written by Michael Pocock, Gailyn Van Rheenen, and Douglas McConnell. All three men are experts in the field of missions; the writers have served overseas and are now currently engaged in equipping the next generation through teaching at Dallas and Fuller Theological Seminary. The authors bring a wealth of personal and academic excellence to their particular chapters as well as a passion to carry the Gospel to the ends of the earth. The balance between academia and real world application make “The Changing Face of World Missions”, an informative and exciting read.
