Mind Over Matter and Levitation
Levitation is the ability to suspend the laws of gravity that bind us to the earth. It has a lot to do with mind over matter. A person being able to clear his or her minds and think nice, good things enable them to do things that they have never done before. Sounds unheard of, but this has been researched, tested, and even observed by people and scientists from all over the world. Extreme mental concentration is all that is needed.
A great subject to prove mind over matter is firewalking. It is said that thinking "cool moss" can actually help a person walk right over top of burning coals without getting burnt (Fighting 15). People actually train to go firewalk. Ronald J. Pekala, from the Mid-Atlantic Education Institute in Westchester, Pennsylvania trains people for six hours, teaching them to focus their attention on a single image. Then, one by one the virginwalkers, as they are called, walk across the pit of fire without getting burnt. Could this be a way for people around the world to gain more confidence and self-esteem?
Most of the firewalkers walk across the fire because after they have done it they feel that they can do anything after that. Firewalking is a real confidence booster for people with low self-esteem. Motivational trainers across the United States have seen what firewalking does to their patients. They are impressed. They see it as a way to "free them for achievement" (Fighting 15). The trainers have used meditation and massage to try and help their patients calm down and to relax. Firewalking seems to be the new big thing out there that is working very well. What can massage or meditation be used for now

... and to make life as easy as we can make it. Setting what people say to the side, then doing the job to the fullest of abilities. Would this world be a better place if everyone had that same kind of mentality? If they did, maybe levitating trains would not be the latest ideas of the 19th century. Then, what would be next?

In the magic of the mind author Dr. Elizabeth loftus explains how a witness’s perception of an accident or crime is not always correct because people's memories are often imperfect. “Are we aware of our minds distortions of our past experiences? In most cases, the answer is no.” our minds can change the way we remember what we have seen or heard without realizing it uncertain witnesses “often identify the person who best matches recollection
Walking in modern society is seen as a tool to get from one place to another. However, philosophers explore the idea that walking can be much more than just a means of transportation. Walking is a catalyst for the brain it helps increase brain function subsequently forming more articulate thoughts. I’ve noticed that the surroundings in which you choose to saunter play a big role in your thought process as well. Walking home on the streets of Berkeley compared to hiking through the mountains of Tahoe, I noticed a difference in my thought process. While in the mountains I felt much more relaxed and mentally clear, compared to when I was walking to my house I felt stressed and in a rush to get home. This idea is supported by the works of Rebecca
Never will someone say out loud they want to be less than someone else, but we crave a simple structure of power: a person or group on top, while the masses follow. Consequently, if someone doesn’t have the qualities to lead, they become a follower. Society is built this way. A good leader will show their followers a goal and set an example of how to achieve that goal. People follow because it gives them the purpose to strive for something seemingly obtainable.
Acoustic levitation takes advantage of the properties of sound to cause solids, and liquids to float. The process can take place in normal or reduced gravity. To understand how acoustic levitation works, you first need to know a little about gravity, air and sound.
Psychedelics have always been a controversial subject in the world of drugs because they have the ability to alter one’s perception of reality. L.S.D, MDMA, and psilocybin are three of the main types of psychedelics on the drug market, all three of which are listed as schedule 1 by the DEA. A schedule 1 drug is considered to have a high addiction risk, has no medical value whatsoever, and is illegal to have in your possession. A schedule 2 drug is considered to have the potential for both medical purposes, and abuse. A schedule 3 drug is considered safe for medical use and can only be prescribed by a doctor. I however, believe that psychedelics should be reconsidered for at least schedule 2 as studies have shown an increase in the use of psychedelics in psychotherapy and can even help the terminally ill come to terms with their own deaths.
These rules existed to create a society that focused on working as a whole. Rather than having individuals that acted with their own selfish reasons, everyone was forced and brainwashed to go along with what was told to
Weerapong, Hume and Kolt (2005) define massage therapy as a physical manipulation of muscles and soft tissues of the body, with the aim of promoting well-being and good health. Some of the mechanical activities involved in massage therapy include exertion of rhythmical pressure, stroking, rolling and rubbing. Massage therapy promotes well-being and positive health by producing psychological, physical and functional outcomes to the afflicted clients. The procedure of massage therapy entails four distinct mechanisms namely; biochemical mechanisms, physiological mechanisms, neurological mechanisms, and psychophysiological mechanisms. All these procedures work together to bring about the effectivity of massage therapy (Fitzcharles, Ste-Marie and Pereira, 2013).
Last Spring, as part of a senior project, I took Tai Chi classes and researched how meditation is used in mind/body medicine. I read several books by doctors who use meditation as a form of healing, in stress-reduction clinics and as treatment for people suffering from severe pain and panic disorders. One doctor in particular, Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn teaches a method he calls mindfulness, in which he has his patients meditate in order to achieve total mind/body awareness. Zinn instructs patients to focus on their pain and to become aware of it. This often helps them realize that they can live with their pain. No pain is too extreme, he says, in the same way that no emotion is a wrong emotion. Awareness is the only absolute, and the only thing that allows people to live in the moment. Not live for the moment, but live in the moment.
...s life was to teach us for not making compromises just in order to fit in. We as human are capable of making decisions for ourselves and whether that decision is good or bad that decision is still ours and we should be able to take responsibility of our decisions. We are constantly bombarded by ideas that try to make us something else, we need to take action against it and follow our heart.
Whoosh!A bed whizzed by, surrounded by about 6 medical personnel. “What’s going on?” I thought immediately with apprehension. I knew whatever was happening it was not ideal. Ensuring I was not in the way, I stood on my toes to see what demanded so much attention. To my astonishment, I saw a coin sized hot-pink little girl. She could not have been bigger than two quarters lying side by side. She was struggling! Even with all the procedures the doctors were executing to save her life, she was performing the most work.

Learning about teaching positive and challenging emotions and the applications of mindfulness in the process reveals the power of Mindfulness Meditation in the process of healing, and how important it is for us, facilitators to be aware of this process.
The mind has an incredible power. We see it as we go through our everyday activities, constantly displaying the wonders of logic, thought, memory and creativity. Yet, can the mind be more powerful than we know? Is it possible to reduce or even eliminate pain, illness and disease by using the natural powers it possesses? Can the mind heal?
