As service members we have a huge opportunity with the different MOS skills we learn throughout our years in the Military. Service members often transition out of the military and find it hard to find jobs in the civilian sector especially a combat MOS with little credentials or license to transition over. The military is working hard to change that and give active duty service members and veterans the opportunity to gain credentials and different licenses to a broad range of enlisted jobs. Out of about 200,000 soldiers transitioning out of the military each year, about 38 percent of them will need some type of credential or license in order to find a good job in the civilian sector. During his address to Honeywell employees the president said that “Our economy needs their outstanding talent” (Obama 2012) referring to serving members. This reshaped the way current service members looking to pursue other careers and even veterans who are already in the civilian workplace. With the president’s guidance and direction the department of defense established the Military Credentialing and Licensing Task Force. The main goal of the task force was to identify military specialties that would transfer to high-demand jobs also to work with civilian associations to address gaps between training programs and licensing and credentialing requirements. They were tasked to provide service members with greater access to necessary certification and licensing exams. One of the biggest issues service members have when transitioning out of the military is finding jobs in a very competitive civilian workforce. This affected this military as a whole helping current ARMY PREFESSIONAL CREDENTIALING, LICENSES AND BENEFITS 4 service members and veterans already out of the service to use their benefits and use their military training to get those much needed certifications and licenses in order to be successful in the civilian
