... was a success, earning over twenty thousand dollars. Steven is at 8th grade graduation, a beautiful girl to his left, and another to his right. Jeffrey’s leukemia is improving, proving that the Alpers’ sacrifices were all worth it. During the conclusion of the story, Steven’s development as a person is apparent. He goes from being “pretty sure about life” (pg. 1) to “I guess maybe my biggest achievement was learning that there’s more to life than taking the big drum solo,” (pg. 270). At the beginning of the year, Jeffrey was under Steven’s list of “Truly Annoying Things.” By 8th grade graduation, Steven has learned to greatly appreciate his brother, even to say “Jeffrey, I love you.” Over the course of the entire year, the Alpers exemplified how sacrificing important aspects of their life can help in overcoming hardships.

Part Two This novel is about a young boy’s life (the author). It starts with him describing his hometown and how life was back then. The name of his town is Judy. Then it goes into his life story.
My recommendation for this book would be that this book is just a fun read, nothing to serious. But yet it's a book were its easy to relate to were a lot of the situations that happen in the book happen in young teenage life as well. Like for example the desperation to fit in. kids will do most likely anything to be part of "the cool group" hopefully not take some sort of pill that will talk to you in your head. But other things like being pressured into talking drugs. Sneaking out of the house to go to some party and not coming back until the next day at dawn without getting caught. These days we do so much and our parents know so little.
In the story, “Seventh Grade,” Victor, the main character, learns valuable lessons such as to think before you say something and that hard work pays off, through his embarrassing situations. For instance, in paragraph twenty-three and twenty-four, Soto wrote that Victor was asked by his teacher to give an example of a noun, but accidentally gave the name of his crush, Teresa’s, and all the girls in the class started giggling since they knew about this. Here, Victor was so infatuated with Teresa that he didn’t realize what he was saying, causing him to embarrass himself. He learned that he shouldn’t let himself lose control since he might further cause embarrassment. In addition, the author wrote in paragraph 43, that Victor volunteered to speak

Sylvia Barret, a new teacher is starting her first day in room 304. She finds out that teaching isn’t all that she thought it would be. Her first friend is Bea a veteran teacher who helps Sylvia out by explaining how Calvin Coolidge high works. The writer takes all the craziness of a normal high school and embellishes them; for instance the school guidance counselor is always using big words and thinks all the students need help. And Mr. Mchabe the administrative assistant who is nosy about everything. The Janitor who is never available.

The book began in a small coffee shop. Zach was sitting at a corner table waiting for his mother to pick him up when two boys with guns burst in and told everyone to stay calm. The boys went straight to the cashier and told the girl to give them all of the money. While the boys were at the cash register Zach saw that a lady parked in a blue car called someone, then drove away. As the cashier was shoving the cash into bags that the boys had handed her, the cops rolled up so the boys made everyone go in the back storage room. There were nine hostages, Zach, two middle aged businessmen, a mother and daughter, the cashier and the coffee boy, and two older ladies who smelled like soap.
