“If you run from a wolf, you may run into a bear” I think everyone can learn from this quote. The quote can mean many things. But what popped up in my head as soon as I saw it was if you run from your problems and don't remain perspective you will run into bigger problems and not succeed. This passage will show you two prime examples of perceptive people Michael Oher and Marshall Mathers or Eminem. Michael grew up in the slums of Memphis TN. His dad gone, mom in and out of jail. He lived in a foster care home for most of his young years. He had very little schooling in fact he failed 1st and 2nd grade. This is before he met the Tuohy family. He had no place to call home until one cold rainy night when the Tuohy family saw Michael walking down the street walking to the high school because “it was warm in there” they then took him home. After living with the family for a couple months he was then adopted into the family. Shortly after he joined the school football team and he showed his skills for the first time, amazing everyone. Oher blossomed he attended Ole Miss on a full ride scholarship for football. Oher was chosen for the NFL draft on the 14 January 2008 but he declined because he wanted to play out his senior year. He was then signed to the baltimore ravens …show more content…
The poem speaks of Phylip the brave. “Raging beast and noblemen alike would never walk again if they threatened his merry land he'd defend it with sword in hand (Rider)” this shows bravery and courage. “But one foe was far too great” (the wolf that you will run away from) he was defeated not running and being courageous. If he were to run away he would of been remembered as the guy to ran from his land and just let him take it. Instead he was brave and will be remembered as the courageous leader who died for his people. This shows how these traits will help you in life and how other people will think of you now and when you're
There are many inspiring quotes in, "I Beat the Odds" by Michael Oher, but one especially stood out to me. In the beginning of the book, Michael discuss his life in Hurt Village and describes how hard his life was he says, "The odds are stacked against you, but you can't let that be an excuse, you have too much to promise to let the odds beat you. It can be done. I beat the odds"(13). This quote made it really clear to me that I shouldn't let someone break me apart or tell me what I can and cannot do because of how I might look, this quote tells me that I can do anything I set my mind into doing. I will also apply this to my life by not making excuses if I can't do something, I will use this knowledge by doing anything that is a challenge,
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts”
Michael attended the University of Mississippi, where he majored in criminal justices which was something he was genuinely interested in. He was drafted to the Carolina Panthers in 2009 and began his NFL career. As it is clear, Michael Oher had a very tough childhood. It is very impressive for someone like Michael, who came from such a rugged background, to get out and create the life he has today. However, Michael did not get where he is right now without hard work. He was determined and because of his awful past, he succeeded and found the motivation to make something better of his life. He was used to not caring about his grades and just barely passing in his classes. That all changed when playing the game he loved was on the line. He definitely got his act together when football was a threat for him. Michael realized he had to get his life in order to be able to go to college to play the game he loves, and there is no way he would have ever succeeded if it wasn’t for a past with such experiences. Now that he had opportunities and the tools to succeed, Michael was able to do whatever he wanted to and he had the chance to really
In the poem, Guest creates this serious tone to display the importance of courage. Additionally, he states that there is more to being courageous than what is commonly recognized. “Courage is more than a daring deed: It’s the breath of life and a strong man’s creed” (Guest 31-32).
In the Anglo-Saxon times, honor, bravery and loyalty were very important morals. Beowulf and Wiglaf showed loyalty in this poem by sticking to their word. Beowulf killed all the monsters and also risked his life. Wiglaf sticks by Beowulf side when he knew that his king were struggling to kill the dragon. The battles between the monsters and the clear descriptions give the poem a more vivid approach and gives the audience bold
In the end, the poem is looking to show what actions can do in the long run. It teaches us to be very cautious with everything we do since it can affect the people around us. It can have good or bad
Michael Oher is a “lost” teen from Memphis who is extremely soft spoken despite his enormous physical stature. The term “gentle giant” could not be more accurate in his case. Throughout
We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face… we must do that which we think we cannot. - By: Eleanor Roosevelt
Nobody ever did, or ever will, escape the consequences of his choices. ~ Alfred A. Montapert.
Michael Oher was a first round pick he was drafted to the Panthers in 2009 this is his seventh season playing football in the National Football League or
Narrative: Michael Jackson was born and grew up in a strict working family in Gary, Indiana, USA on August 29, 1958. Jackson showed an early interest in music as did most of his family. His mother sang frequently, his father Joseph Jackson played guitar in a small-time R&B band, his older brothers often sang and played with their father’s guitar. Soon the family singing group started, with Michael as the main puppet and four of his older brothers. “After all it seemed to be the simplest way to earn money to feed so many kids said Joseph Jackson”. If you can't feed your kids teach them how to feed themselves. Anyway Michael soon outgrew his brothers with his unique talent not just for singing but for dancing as well. Jackson’s father, who is a controlling supposedly abusive father. "My father beat me. It was difficult to take being beaten and then going onstage.
“By facing our fears and overcoming them will make us strong and capable enough to face any challenges in life.” - Anurag Prakash Ray
However, Oher expressed his feelings in an ESPN interview that the movie changed how people look at him. According to an article from Cinemablend, Oher said, "People look at me, and they take things away from me because of a movie. They don’t really see the skills and the kind of player I am. That’s why I get downgraded so much, because of something off the field"(How The Blind). The point Michael Oher is trying to get across is that just because his life was made into a movie does not make him any less of a player. People look more into his past life and judge him based off the movie rather than his actual skills he worked hard for to become the football player he is today. Furthermore, looking more towards his football career, in 2009, Michael Oher was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the NFL Draft. He also played for the Tennessee Titans, but was released because of a toe injury. In 2015, he signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the Carolina Panthers. According to an article from The Charlotte Observer, "In June of 2016, Oher signed a three-year contract extension with the Panthers worth $21.6 million with $9.5 guaranteed"(Personjperson). With that being said, over the pervious year, Michael Oher has shown the success he has had with the Panthers by the extent of his

With his afro, short stature, and big brown eyes, Michael's talent at singing makes crouds scream his name and the people of the world cannot get enough of him. Although he loves his talent, his career as an artist deters him from finishing grade school. Being away from his childhood friends, and on tour all the time, Michel is left without a childhood until he feels the need to regain it later on his life. Although many people boo the star, Micheal still manages to contain his integraty as a pop legend in the end and he still loves children just as he did before. Michael Oher was an under privileged teenager who bounced from foster house to foster house and ended up at his mom’s house who was a drug addict. Shortly after he moved in with her she passed away. Michael was enrolled into a private school called Briarcrest Christian school. He was barely able to read and write when he began at the school. Michael met the Tuohy family and they took it as a blessing. They invited him to stay the night, but this turned in to much more. The Tuohy’s started treating him like their own. Michael was given his own bedroom, was purchased new clothes, and was set up for a better life. The Tuohy’s were a huge football family and couldn’t let Michaels size, speed, and strength go to waste. He was the perfect person
