In 1846 the U.S. wanted Texas for themselves but the only problem was Mexico also wanted Texas. Two countries wanted the same state thus starting the Mexican American War. Some people question if the U.S. was justified in fighting in the war. Yes, they were justified because in the Pro-War Newspaper Article it tells how the U.S. just wanted to peacefully talk to Mexico but when they tried, a war broke out starting with the Mexicans firing first.
The U.S. just wanted land and so peacefully talking to the Mexicans was the way they wanted to acquire it. After trying to talk the Mexicans they started firing at the U.S. soldiers of whom were protecting a post in the far west prairies. “The Mexicans took the lead with their usual craftiness and love for blood. Mexico murdered two officers and attacked some troops in Texas for no reason.” The Mexicans killed troops when the U.S. was just protecting their post.

“We sent our minister, Mr. Slidell, in good faith and Mexico promised that they would receive him. We sincerely offered friendship.” Maybe if the U.S. was nicer to the Mexicans and were also more reliable with previous treaties the Mexicans would have trusted them. Yes, those are reasons it was unjust but they did try and talk to the Mexicans and they still attacked.
In the discussion about the Mexican American War being justified, it is reasonable to choose this perspective that America was justified because the U.S. went west to protect the post the Mexicans attacked and the U.S. was merely fighting back in self-defense.
