I, Ricky Brooks, would like to announce that I have filed to run for Metcalfe County Sheriff as the Republican candidate. After years of serving in the military and law enforcement, I believe I can move our county in a positive direction based on my experience and training.
I have worked in law enforcement for nearly 18 years. I began my career in 2000 at the Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Department after graduation from the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice in Richmond, Kentucky. I also worked at the Edmonton Police Department and Glasgow Police Department. I then attended the Kentucky State Police Academy and became a Kentucky State Trooper where I obtained the rank of Trooper First Class. As a Kentucky State Trooper, I worked as a patrol
The Thompson Valley Police Service is seeking to double the number of police recruits over the next three years. In an attempt to attract more applicants, the newly appointed Police Commissioner, Commissioner Jason DeVillain is proposing two key changes to the current selection process. Firstly, Commissioner DeVillain is proposing to eliminate the requirement for partial or completed tertiary education. Secondly, it is being proposed that psychological testing should be removed from the selection process. As a research and policy officer for the Thompson Valley Police Service, the validity and likely impact of the above two proposed changes will be investigated thoroughly, followed by recommendations to Commissioner DeVillain to ensure the selection process is as effective as possible in selecting the most suitable candidates for the new police recruits. The role of a general duties police officer is broad in nature and requires the officer to be efficient in many areas, ranging from administrative duties to conflict resolution and problem solving. In addition to the recording and logging of all jobs attended while on duty, the officer may be required to prepare documents for court hearings, where written communication skills will also be

Facts: Sheriff B.J. Roberts ran for reelection against opponent, Jim Adams, in 2009. When Sheriff Roberts won reelection in November 2009, he reappointed the majority of his staff with some exceptions. Deputy sheriffs Robert W. McCoy, Daniel Ray Carter, Jr., David W. Dixon, John C. Sandhofer, Debra H. Woodward, and Bobby Bland were among those not reappointed. The deputies alleged that they were terminated because of their support for Sheriff Roberts’ opposition. Some of this support included Carter “liking” the Adams campaign Facebook page. In reaction to this, Sheriff Roberts war...
The organizing function of the manager consists of developing organizational charts, job descriptions, and statement of work flows ( Liebler and McConnell, 2008, p.53). I had the opportunity to conduct a phone interview with Caleb Justice; a corrections officer from the Federal correctional Institution in Terre Haute, Indiana. Caleb is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he served four years on active duty as a machine gunner. During his four years he deployed on a Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) as well as to Nowzad and Musa Qala Afghanistan. After serving honorably Caleb decided to take his skill set to the civilian sector and began seeking employment in the Criminal Justice System.
I chose to do my ride along with the Lexington Police Department. The police officer that I got to ride along with was Officer Ernesti. Officer Ernesti has an associates degree in criminal justice. After high school he attended Southeast Community College in Lincoln. He says that he wished he chose a different field to study. The reason is was because he got in a fight with a suspect and injured his arm. He was afraid that he did something severe to his arm that he would not be able to perform any police duty. If he would have had a different degree he could have fallen back to something that does not relate to criminal justice. Before getting hired by the Lexington Police Department in January of 2014 he worked in Gosper County for two years. During his time at Gosper County he was a K-9 handler.
The criminal justice field is made up of many facets. The court system includes many professions which include lawyers, judges, police officers and polygraph examiners. The federal justice system has numerous professions as well. Two highly recognizable organizations in the government criminal justice system are the CIA and the FBI. Two careers of interest worth future investigation are a polygraph examiner and a special agent in the FBI.

Women in Law Enforcement There are many stereotypes that women in the law enforcement field have to face. In order to recruit more women into policing, law enforcement agencies should attempt to overcome the idea that policing is a "male-oriented profession". This paper will cover parts of the history of women police officers, some views and stereotypes of the female officer, job related issues, life outside of the workforce and job satisfaction. It used to be that only nursing, teaching, and clerical positions were open to women. A small number of women worked as correctional officers and their assignments were usually limited to peripheral tasks.
The difficulties of any police administration are always going to be based on citizen expectations. However, a great citizen expectation should be the goal of every officer in the field. At times officers will become disgruntled because of situations or things that happen at work. These officers should be recognized by the command staff or supervisor and dealt with immediately. Everyone has downtimes or crisis that can affect their job performance.
If you decide to become a Police officer you must be available for shift work at any time of day and any day of the week, including holidays. Some Shifts can be longer than the standard eight-hour office day. The routine of the job can also be dangerous, as well as physically and e...
Public safety covers a wide variety of people and organizations, but carries one common theme and that is, the public’s safety. This course has broadened my knowledge on the many roles that make the public safety sector go around and the role the public plays in it as well. My thoughts before the course were close minded and to the point. I quickly realized that policing is not as cut and dry as I once portrayed it to be. Society is always changing and adapting, and it is the job of the those in public safety to adapt and change with it. The mindset that I grew up with, in rural Saskatchewan, was the police are good people and you will only need to deal with them if you break the law or see someone break the law. My answers in the module 1 survey reflected my upbringing. My first thought for
In the past eight years as a police officer for the City of South Salt Lake, I have found that personal growth and achievement in my career have been based on certain past experiences. Such experiences have molded what my personality is today. I have found that in order to be triumphant in my personal and professional goals, it has been necessary for me to reflect not only on my strides, but also my mistakes.
