Messiah is a great work. This video has one music conductor, two male soloists, two female soloists, a male choir and a female choir. And many instruments such as violins, piano, cellos, drum, horn and some others. Every time when the male and female soloist finish, the instruments will play for a little, after that the choir group will stand up and starting singing.
I did a few researches from google about what Handel’s situation when he was making this music. After research that, I can say this music is a turning point of his life, a connection to the god, and a light to the people that are trying to survive. This video beginning with a male singing along, and a few instruments such as violins play for him, and he is the main lead while singing. After ten minutes, the piano start, and the males and female start to sing together. When females choir and males choir sing together, the violins and all other instruments play together too. I

The second part of the music is slow rhythm, broad melody lines, bright colors with a touch of warmth, delicate, soft emotional color. This make me feel comfort and warm. At the last part of the video, everyone stands up, play and sing together. The drum is the last instrument that play and use to end of whole video. This music makes me get inspire by the heart, feel like have more power to move forward. As we talked about in the discussions, I have no idea what exactly that they were trying to sing. But I can feel what they trying to express from this video. The powerful from the singing and the instruments play. It feels like a hope to a life. Making people believe everything will turn out good. I can see Handel’s emotion when he wrote this song. From the bottom of his heart the praise and thanksgiving to God. Only with such a great mind can we compose the most touching music, inspire many people lost in the world and illuminate the their
The piano is what sets the mood of the whole piece, the beginning starts off slow and gloomy sounding, then the vocalist begins to sing and confirms that this song is going to be unhappy. Although the song is gloomy sounding, I still like it, the piano has a pleasant melody and it is calming. It sounds like a song that should be played in a movie when a loved one dies and everyone’s moored at a funeral.
It is also the piece that had enough of an effect to make the evil man go away, in the film, Fantasia. My strongest reaction to this piece, is the warm and chilled feeling I get hearing it. The idea of developing “chilled” bones from music is amazing. I arrived at this certain place, by truly diving into the song. I really listened to it, and could hear the seriousness in the singer’s voice. I could hear and understand the passion that the musicians felt when they pressed the piano’s keyboards. The singing, along with the instruments complimenting, is astonishing. I caught myself listening to this piece during the interview, and I could imagine even an evil monster falling in love with this tune enough to turn good. I felt the drama and power in the singing, and the seriousness in the playing of the
How Handel Schieves a Sense of Majesty in his Setting of The King Shall Rejoice
Boynick, Matt. "Georg Friedric Handel." Classical Music Pages. 1 Feb. 1996. 13 July 2005 .
There are several famous Western Composers in History, but the one composer that I wanted to know more about is George Frideric Handel. He was born on February 23, 1682 and he was a German- born British Baroque composer. He studied at the University of Halle before moving to Hamburg in 1703, where he served as a violinist in the opera orchestra. He was born the same year as Johann Sebastian Bach. He spent most of his life in London and he was well known for his operas, oratorios, anthems, and organ concertos. Handel was a son of a barber- surgeon and Handel’s dad wanted him to become a lawyer, but he was into music. Handel’s father didn’t want to by Handel an instrument because he didn’t want him to be a composer. His mom and his aunt was the only one that supported him. Handel started playing the violin,
A joyous celebration of the sanctity of life is generated through the element of Mood and atmosphere. The clip begins with a soft orchestration of piano and violin, creating a magical melody. The choice of melody creates the mood and atmosphere that influences the audience to feel joyous from the outset. The use of lighting adds dramatic effect to the mood and atmosphere of this scene; a warm yellow beam of light streams out of the barn, cutting through the dark and rainy morning, which
The Introductory piece for the University Singers was “Chester.” This piece used both a drum and a flute. It was evident from this first piece that the University singers had all had extensive musical background. My favorite piece of the concert would have to be “Idumea.” This piece began with a violin solo and then a solo by a male voice. What was noteworthy about this piece was the sound of the voices. The voices of the choir resembled an Irish or Scottish dialect. Towards the end of “Indumea” the University Singers stomped there feet on the risers adding a new timbre and increasing the dynamics. After the concert I did some research on the piece and I found out that unique quality of the sound came from the “shape note singing” used in the piece. “Shape note singing” is particularly popular in Kentucky and lower parts of Midwestern United States. The next piece was “Cantate Canticum Novum” which featured the choir repeating the same phrase “Cantate Canticum Novum” over and over. The University Singers added variety by changing the dynamics, range, and tempo. The texture was polyphonic for much of the piece. The only piece I was familiar with in this concert was “Peace Like a River.” This Piece had a peaceful mood and slow tempo. There was a wide range of pitches in “Peace Like a
The movie film “Luther” came out in 2003 and was directed by Eric Till and also produced by Christian Stehr, Alexander Theis and Brigitte. There were several actors that took part in the film. Three actors stood out that their roles will be important to the characters they will be playing is, Joseph Fiennes who plays Luther, Alfred Molina who plays the character Johann Tetzel, and Jonathan Firth playing the character Girolamo Aleander. Also a noble and noteworthy actor Sir peter Ustinov who plays the character Fredrick the Wise, who is Luther’s most avid and powerful defenders.
The music accompaniment to this piece comes from one or two pianos which work in almost perfect collaboration with the dance so that neither one overshadows the other. While no other instruments are used, the melody of the piano changes from scene to scene in order to depict Jooss’ emotional responses. During the scenes with the politicians, the air of the piano is light-hearted and almost comedic. The purpose of this was to show the detachment of these men from the war. They are in a safe situation, unexposed to war and death. When the scene changes and we see what’s happening in the lives of citizens, this vaudeville-like tune is transformed into a thunderous and eerie song that haunts the audience. The reason for this change is to reveal Jooss’ feelings about the unnecessary brutality and death that always comes with a war, and how politicians don’t understand the horror of it.
The music of George Frideric Handel has been celebrated throughout time, especially his oratorio work. Handel’s oratorios are considered to be some of the best in existence. However, much discussion and reverence is given to his Messiah, while the others are not as commonly subject to this praise. Therefore, I will investigate the origin and creation of the oratorio, Esther by Handel, with focus on his music for the scene. I will argue that Handel expresses the drama and emotion of this biblical story through the musical elements he employs, particularily
This piece is an aria that was composed by George Gershwin. In this video, it plays the music while showing different pictures of different scenery. The sound quality of the video is clear, and the video was relaxing to watch. It made me enjoy listening to the music more due to the interesting things to look at while enjoying the music. The pictures in the background relate to the music because they are pictures that were taken during the summer. The piece of music itself is very relaxing and interesting to listen
This paper is a review of Jeansonne Glen’s biography “Messiah of the Masses: Huey P. Long and the Great Depression”. To the reader, the biography seems like more of a tall tale filled with corruption, manipulation, and deceit. Unfortunately for the citizens of Louisiana, in 1928 Huey Pierce “Kingfish” Long became the governor of the state of Louisiana. The author doesn’t believe Long to be a saint nor a sinner; however, he does believe Long’s biggest priority wasn’t the people but himself.
George Frideric Handel was born musically inclined. As a child he was deprived of musical instruments because his father wanted him to pursue the law profession. However, George was allowed to take music lessons from a local organist, by the name of Friedrich Wilhelm Zachau, after Handel had impressed the Duke when he played the organ at the chapel. In his following years, Handel would travel to many places, accepting many different musical occupations. As Handel traveled, he was introduced to many of his musical influences. He wrote operas, oratorios, anthems, secular cantatas, and also wrote scarred music. Throughout his life, Handel would become famous for his compositions, particularly for his English Oratorios, however the most popular ones today include: “Messiah”, “The Water Music”, and “Royal Fireworks.”
German-English composer, George Frederick Handel, is one of the greatest composers of the Baroque period if not of all time. His work, Messiah, is one of the most famous and beloved works of music in the world. During his career in music, Handel composed Italian cantatas, oratorios (like Messiah), Latin Church Music, and several operas. Handel moved around from country to country writing, composing, and producing music for royalty such as Queen Anne and George of Hanover. In his life, Handel mastered several instruments including the violin and the harpsichord.
Portrayals of Biblical figures is nothing new, but this seemingly new trend of cinematically filling in Biblical gaps of history - as it were - most certainly is. In particular, Noah, Exodus: Gods and Kings, and Risen have each taken it upon itself to add flair to well documented scripture - as a means to reenact some of the most famous moments in the Bible.
