The age of exploration brought many different experiences/consequences to the conquered countries of Mesoamerica and the conquering countries of Europe. These experiences include the consumable items traded, the cultures that were exchanged, and the ideas that were shared. Many different foods, spices, animals, plants, and drinks were traded between the conquered countries and the conquering ones. It was all similar because they both traded consumable items between each other that each side thought one would need (e.g chocolate, coffee, cows, etc.). Along with the many documents, the news of Christopher Columbus’ discoveries of “India” or the New World had sparked the curiosity of people all over the world. People became more interested in geography and seeing what’s out there along with the different resources. The New World discovery opened up a new trade route and different trade items. In the “Henricus Martellus’ World Map, 1489” (Document E), it shows the world as they knew it with Europe, Africa, and Asia. The “Martin Waldseemuller's World Map, 1507” was an updated, more correct version of the world we see today. Waldseemuller’s map includes the Americas and was much bigger than Martellus’. Many idolize Columbus for his accomplishments in colonizing the Americas and starting the Columbian Exchange. The Columbian Exchange is the sharing of plants, animals, diseases, human populations, technology, and ideas between the Western and Eastern Hemispheres as a direct result of Columbus’ arrival to the Americas. However, we often oversee the downfalls of the Columbian Exchange.
America in the late 19th century was a period of American improvement in industry, but not in the working conditions of those industries. The working class, unlike the wealthy businessmen of America, had to perform hard laborious tasks in unsanitary and unsafe conditions in order to survive. The three explorers discussed in this paper is Henry Hudson, Jacques Cartier, and Francisco Pizarro. Henry Hudson was an explorer whose main purpose was to find a route to Asia from Europe, he had a series of three voyages trying to achieve this. Jacques Cartier was sent to find riches and a route to Asia as well. Francisco Pizarro served on an expedition, which he discovered the Pacific Ocean.
Columbian Exchange or the big exchange was a great exchange on a wide range of animals (Horses, Chickens, sheep, swine, Turkey), plants (Wheat, barley, corn, beans, tomatoes), people and culture, infectious diseases, and ideas, technology (Wheeled vehicles, iron tools, metallurgy) all these things happened between Native Americans and from Europe after the voyage of Christopher Columbus in 1492. The Colombian exchange was the exchange of products and ideas that led to the transformation of the world. One product of the Colombian Exchange during the period of 1450-1750 was the horse. Horses were introduced to the Americas by the Spanish. Politically, horses aided in the conquest of land by instilling fear upon their opponents. Socially, horses became the most effective form of transportation that allowed society to cover more land at a more fast speed. Economically, horses benefited agriculture by pulling plows to increase the rate of farming. The exchange of horses impacted the Old World in a more negative way than in a positive way in the long run.
