Shakespeare is known for making many memorable characters. Why is Mercutio one of the most memorable? The memorability of the character Mercutio comes from many things in the story. The largest source of his memorability is his ability to make anything a joke. In Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, the biggest source of comedic relief is Mercutio. Mercutio’s making fun of Romeo and Tybalt, added to his ability to lighten up any situation with the comedic relief he provides, makes him an extremely memorable character.
