In the textile industry, merchandisers have a predominantly significant part because of the exhaustive nature of product range. The practice of buying and selling materials and services are called as merchandising. Merchandising activity coordinates different departments in the garment industry. It develops a valuable relationship with the buyers. It builds excellent relationship with the buying houses and merchandiser concentrate to queries, order processing and assessment of apparel products. Hence merchandising is of significant importance in garment industry (Kunz 2005).

19.5 Workflow of sampling

19.6.12 Pre-production meeting (PPM)
After all the samples are approved by the buyers and all raw materials are organized in the stores, then the mass production has to be started. Prior to that, the merchandisers have to organize a pre-production meeting with the production manager and other department heads to plan the process to avoid any delays in target time.

19.6.13 Forwarding of production file to production planning and control
Production file is a manuscript or document which contains all the information of a particular garment style. This document has to be prepared by the merchandiser. Production file is then forwarded to CPC once the pre-production sample is approved; along with the file merchandiser will forward the approved pre-production sample too. Finally the same is forwarded to PPC after examination the file by the CPC. 19.8.2.2 Selection of a fashion image Each retail store has to create a retail image in the mind-set of customers irrespective of whether the retail store wants it or not. A retail merchandiser should create his own store’s image which could draw the attention of customers. The type of fashion image the retail store need depends on the type of target customer the store want to attract. 19.8.2.3 Buying the merchandise Buying fashion merchandise for a retail store is a difficult job as it calls for a lot of planning for budget, selection of merchandise and selection of suppliers. Further, it is also important to decide on the quality of the products to be ordered.

19.8.2.4 Receiving and stocking the merchandise After the arrival of ordered goods at the retail stores, it should be inspected vigilantly for the quantities against the packing list or shipping invoice sent by the supplier.
