Melasma is a skin disorder that appears as irregular brown skin patches on the cheeks, nose, forehead and upper lip. Melasma is not dangerous, but can impair your appearance, personality and self confidence. Various options of treatment are available and dermatologists found the melasma laser treatment to be effective of all. Causes of melasma: Melasma is caused due to an over production of melanin. Melanin is the substance that imparts color to the skin. The exact cause for this type of hyperpigmentation is not known. However, the main four factors that contribute to melasma are hormone, genetics, skin inflammation and sun exposure. Intense exposure to sun can worsen the problem. Pregnancy and menopause also can trigger melasma. It is common among pregnant women and is referred as “the mask of pregnancy”. Who is affected? Melasma is very common among women, affecting about 45 million people worldwide. It is common among people having dark skin tones than the lighter ones. It is more common among women during pregnancy, or with those women taking hormone replacement drugs or birth control pills. Melasma can also affect men, but it is rare. Types: There are three types of melasma: • Epidermal • Dermal • Mixed Epidermal plasma develops close to the surface of skin and can be easily controlled. Dermal plasma that occurs deep in the skin layers are difficult to treat. Mixed plasma is a condition when both the types are present. Melasma laser treatment: Melasma laser skin resurfacing This process is precise and can be performed either on the entire face or a particular portion of the face. Laser resurfacing can treat other irregularities and imperfections in the skin texture and pigment. This form of melasma laser trea... ... middle of paper ... ... 30 to 60 after the treatment. Sun damage is a primary factor causing melasma; hence always use a sunscreen, no matter what your skin type is. Other methods of melasma treatment: Protection from the sunlight is very essential for treating melasma. It is advisable to use a good sunscreen lotion of high SPF that protects your skin from UVA and UVB rays. You can prevent skin discoloration by covering your body. When melasma affects only the epidermal layers, the chemical peels and skin lightening agents can work well in such cases. There are also bleaching agents that do not bleach your skin, but decrease the activity of melanin. They help in reducing the appearance of skin discolorations and dark spots. The effectiveness of bleach and skin lightening varies from person to person. It is advisable to consult a dermatologist before beginning the melasma treatment.
When microdermabrasion removes the outer layer of skin the body then goes into a healing mode that promotes the making of new healthier cells. Microdermabrasion is like when one sustains an injury to his skin and the body sends treatment molecules to heal the damage. Mariane Fernandes conducted an experiment with the aim to evaluate the effects of microdermabrasion on skin rejuvenation. Fernandes stated in her article “Effects of microdermabrasion on skin rejuvenation” in the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy that “Microdermabrasion treatment promoted skin rejuvenation through an increase in skin thickness due to an increase in epidermal thickness and collagen organization” (Fernandes 26). Acne weakens and thins the skin epidermal layers, causing acne scars. Microdermabrasion heals the weak, thin, and fragile skin, which makes the skin smooth and more resistant to other damaging conditions. Doctor Bruce M. Freedman an aesthetic plastic surgeon and assistant professor of plastic surgery at Georgetown University also analyzed the dermatological changes associated with microdermabrasion in “Clinical and histologic changes determine optimal treatment regimens for microdermabrasion” in the Journal of Dermatological Treatment. Freedman’s experiment also yielded results of an increase of epidermal thickness
Melanoma is a non-communicable disease and according to the Melanoma Institute of Australia, is a malignant skin cancer that affects thousands of individuals. It is a prevalent and serious non-communicable disease, making it an important issue in Australia. Both a biomedical perspective and sociological perspective must be considered to enable health practitioners to have a deep understanding about melanoma, and thus allow them to develop efficient and effective treatment and prevention methods.
While there are multiple facets of the industry that I am attracted to, I am most passionate about facials and skin care treatments. I enjoy having the ability to help someone improve the appearance and health of their skin, while also educating my clients on what their skin needs and how they can further improve it at home. Along with facials and skin care, I am very interested in microblading and other permanent and semi-permanent makeup techniques, including scalp micropigmentation and areola pigmentation. When done properly, microblading can camouflage missing or sparse eyebrow hairs with hair-like strokes using small deposits of cosmetic tattoo pigments. Scalp micropigmentation is similar to microblading, because it mimics the look of natural hair by applying cosmetic tattoo pigments to the epidermis on the scalp. Areola pigmentation aims to restore the look of the areola and nipple area on the breast. It is typically performed on breast cancer survivors after a mastectomy, but it is also common for women with fading or irregular areolas to receive this procedure. The common denominator in these cosmetic tattooing procedures is that they all work to rebuild the individual’s confidence. Having the knowledge and training to provide a client with something that can help them love themselves a little more is what I find most fulfilling in this
What are these red patches of skin on my body that I can’t ever help from scratching? It is eczema, which is defined as a medical condition in which patches of skin become inflamed, with blisters that cause itching and bleeding. Genetics take a role in the possibility of having eczema, after comes the diagnosis, then being prescribed the treatment needed, and lastly their prognosis.
The major environmental risk factor for melanoma is overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. People who have fair skin that burns or freckles easily need to be especially careful in the sun as protecting yourself against UV overexposure is an important way you can help reduce your risk of developing melanoma.
Melanin helps reduce the absorption of wavelengths into the skin (Chaplin, Jablonski, 59). The more melanin in the skin, the greater the protection against harmful UV rays, and the amount of melanin in the skin correlates with the skin’s color (more melanin means darker skin)....

amount of UV exposure absorbed by a person is a direct result of the intensity of the light absorbed, the length of time of the exposure, and whether or not the skin was protected by clothing or sunscreen. Skin damage can be prevented by limiting when and how long one is exposed to sunlight, and by wearing protective clothing and sunscreen. Avoid exposure to sunlight during mid-day hours, when it is most intense. Tight weave clothing, and hats, protect against the sun's rays. Tanning beds, while popular, are also ...

Skin cancer is a disease where cancer (malignant) cells are found on the outer layer of the skin (epidermis). Many people will find that amount of sunlight they receive has little or no impact on the state of their psoriasis, but in the cases where the light therapy has worked, it seems to reduce the appearance of the lesions greatly. Obviously, the risk of the UV light therapy is the possible threat of skin cancer.
Laser method is used widely now a days in acne scar treatment, for acne skin removal uses the wand-like equipments that emits laser rays which burns off the acne scared skin and thus enabling fresh skin formation. Probably the most commonly used word by your dermatologist, your beautician, your pharmacist or just the girl next door, and for a good reason. The sun’s damaging UV rays can single-handedly destroy your skin over time and in some cases even cause irreparable damage. It will burn your skin, dry it out, destroy collagen fibers and predispose you to cancer. Whether it’s a scorching sun or not, whether you are outdoors or not, sunscreen is an everyday must-wear. You have a choice.
