Biomedical Versus Homeopathy Every person at some point in his or her life gets sick, and needs to see a doctor. Some people prefer conventional medicine, while others feel more comfortable with complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Biomedical medicine is the most used practice around the world, but homeopathic medicine has become more popular as an alternative medicine. Choosing which type of medicine is a personal decision, and having more information about the different alternatives helps one select the best option for their selves. Biomedical medicine treatments consist in identifying the body part with the problem. The practitioner makes a diagnosis according to the patient’s health, family history, and data obtained from statistical analysis. Then the doctor chooses which drug or surgical procedure is better for his or her patient. In homeopathic medicine, remedies produce the very symptoms of the particular disease in a healthy human being. Remedies are similar in terms of symptoms, which should resemble the patient’s symptoms as much as possible. Biomedical medicine usually is more expensive than homeopathic medicine. A conventional doctor charges between $75 to $350 dollars per consultation. Depending on the treatment, the medicines can also be expensive. Also, it is important to consider that the drugs used in conventional medicine usually have side effects. At the same time, the medical practitioner needs to spend at least seven years studying medicine to become a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic (DO). They can also become a licensed naturopathic physician (NDs) and include homeopathy in their practice. Some homeopathy providers are considered counselors instead of medical professionals if they are not also certified as physicians, nurse practitioners or physician assistants. They charge between $60 to $70 dollars per visit, and these homeopaths can recommend over-the-counter remedies and provide guidance to individuals as long as they do not claim to provide medical advice or healing. However, homeopathy is extremely safe because it remedies are so dilute, that it is very difficult to take the wrong dose or hurt yourself using these remedies. The worst scenario is that this remedies do not do anything to one’s disease. Some people also decide to learn how to use homeopathy for home care of bruises, fevers, cuts and other minor issues. Homeopathic remedies are very inexpensive, usually about $6 dollars a bottle.
