Even as babies we are already being expose to different gender roles. From the way we grow up in different cultures to how the media portrays things. Although our surroundings cannot influence our gender identity they do have an impact on how we act towards it. When people allow such influences to play a large role in ones life it can become difficult to live the life we want to. It does not matter if you are a straight male, female, or someone from the LGBTQ community; people are expected to act a certain way. People who fall within the LGBTQ community may not even be out because it is hard to be proud of being someone when people have expectations.
Being in a world where I had people influence what I should like or should not like made it hard when I realized I was a lesbian. Even after I came out to myself I had a hard time and kept it a secret. All I knew was that I had to act a certain way and like boys since it is the normal thing to do. I would …show more content…

Parents, peers, media, colleagues push all these things on us, throughout our lives. Males are taught that they are superior, they should not cry or show emotion, they should provide and be the man of the household. Just like females, males have are taught to fit into a box sort to speak. In the world there are some places where women are free to just be themselves and get an education, whereas in other places women cannot even vote, let alone get an education. As nations some are progressing in making a change and giving equality to everyone but some are not. Aside from marriage being about falling in love, in some cultures women can only marry someone from their culture. Nowadays, you can have different types of people marry. Some from different backgrounds and it is okay but in others it is looked down
