Mechanisms and Processes of the Internet
Electronic commerce can be defined as the conduct of commerce in goods and services, with the assistance of telecommunications and telecommunications-based tools. Here, the term telecommunications can mean any existing telecommunication networks such as Public Switched Telephone Network, Integrated Services Digital Network, or even Wireless Networks. However the major and the most important telecommunication network of E-commerce is the Internet. The great possibility and potential of E-commerce has been realized with the development of the Internet. Therefore understanding how the Internet works is quite important to better understand E-commerce and to develop E-commerce applications.
In this paper I will discuss the mechanisms and process of the Internet. The structure of the paper is as follows:

II. The Basic Process
When we surf the web, we type any URL in to our browser, and the desired page pop up on our screen. At the most basic level possible, the following diagram shows what happened:
Our browser formed a connection to a web server, requested a page and received it. Here are the basic steps that occurred behind the scenes:
· The browser broke the URL into 3 parts: 1) The protocol ("http"), 2) the server name ("www.howstuffworks.com"), and 3) the file name ("web-server.htm").
· The browser communicated with a name server to translate the server name "www.howstuffworks.com" into an IP Address that it can use to connect to the server machine.
· The browser then formed a connection to the server at that IP address on port 80.
· Following the HTTP protocol, the browser sent a GET request to the server asking for the file "web-server.htm".
· The server returned the HTML text for the web page to the browser. The browser read the HTML tags and formatted the page onto your screen.
III. Mechanisms of the Internet

The Internet is a gigantic collection of millions of computers that are all linked together on a computer network.

This process is a transport layer encryption that includes HTTPS using TLS/SSL which is used to encrypt and keep secure the communication between the websites and the web browser. The websites with HTTPS, enable us to transmit the information over the internet securely. Even if unauthorized user access that information, they can’t read. When the information reaches to the destination probably located in a different country, then website operator can decrypt it and store it.
An example of a highly important protocol which will be utilized at application level, is HTTP or hypertext transfer protocol. HTTP is the protocol used within web browsers and the entire internet to send and receive specific web page data. HTTP is a controlling protocol, as it determines how documents should be sent, and what the browser should do in response to commands. When accessing a web page, a HTTP command is sent to the pages web server, so that the server may send that specific page’s data to the user. PCO’s Learning Centre will be using the hypertext transfer protocol on a regular basis. In order for students to access web pages, the HTTP must exist to ensure speedy and accurate navigation, especially in a learning
HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) is the set of rules for transferring files (text, graphic images, sound, video, and other multimedia files) on the Web. As soon as a Web user opens their Web browser, the user is indirectly making use of HTTP. HTTP is an application protocol that runs on top of the TCP/IP suite of protocols. HTTP concepts include the idea that files can contain references to other files whose selection will elicit additional transfer requests. Your Web browser is an HTTP client, sending requests to server machines. When the browser user enters file requests by either "opening" a Web site or clicking on a link, the browser builds an HTTP request and sends it to the Internet Protocol address indicated by the URL. File Transfer Protocol (FTP), a standard Internet protocol, is the simplest way to exchange files between computers on the Internet.
The internet has developed into the go to source for communication, finding information, and entertainment. People look for the best way to use it and to get the most out of it. Browsers are programs that bring the World Wide Web to people on a variety of different devices. These platforms for exploring the internet have become more and more advanced as we make progress in the world of technology. They have to keep up to make sure they meet society’s demands and preferences. Two of the biggest browsers today are Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. They both bring the best that browsers have to offer.
Before we go too far it should be noted that TCP/IP is really two protocols. The first is the Transmission Control Protocol or TCP. The second protocol is IP which stands for Internet Protocol. These two combined provide the basis for the virtual level of most of the networks we use today. The roots of the protocols reach back into the 1970’s. At that time networks were built by wires connecting one computer to the next directly. This is called direct connect. If you wanted information to get to a computer that yours was not direct connected to you would have to create a bridge on a common machine you are both connected to. This way messages you send in one connection are transferred in the computer to the other connection and sent to the computer you were trying to talk to. This is sometimes called a gateway.
The Internet is a global network connecting millions of personal, institutional and company computers. The number of computers used by the internet is growing rapidly. The United States is connected with over 100 countries worldwide and linked together to exchange of data, news and opinions. The Internet is decentralized design. This means that there isn't just one computer that stores all of the information from the Internet. There are many independent host servers located throughout the US and the world that store the information made available to the global Internet community.
When all the internet system is working and then refer a particular IP (Internal Protocol) address to every machine and the address should be defined four “Octets” in dotted decimal number and 32-bit normally like “192.200.199.1”.
If a web page is requested the router receives it, then checks the destination IP address. The bits in this IP address are used as a hash point for the correct route. This points the packet in the correct direction to be forwarded to. The router sends the packet in the correct direction, from one router to the next, until the packet makes it to the intended location it was sent to.

An example of this would be freedom of speech, nothing can get in the way of a person saying what they want. This liberty focuses on privacy and "pursuing our own good in our own way."(Dahl,
The Internet is made up of thousands of computers from around the world, these computers are linked up together though cables and satellites. Often people think the Internet is a “cloud,” but it’s a physical object. It is made up of servers and clients, which are usually made out of plastic and metal, containing a series of electronic circuits, for example; wires, glass, fibre optics, chips and other simular parts to used make a circuit. The Internet is used for a wide range of activities; these are, sending files, research on the World Wide Web (WWW), online chatting and electronic mail service. Humans are so dependant on the Internet because it holds most of our private information in servers around the world.
The Internet has revolutionized the computer and communications world like nothing before. The Internet enables communication and transmission of data between computers at different locations. The Internet is a computer application that connects tens of thousands of interconnected computer networks that include 1.7 million host computers around the world. The basis of connecting all these computers together is by the use of ordinary telephone wires. Users are then directly joined to other computer users at there own will for a small connection fee per month. The connection conveniently includes unlimited access to over a million web sites twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. There are many reasons why the Internet is important these reasons include: The net adapts to damage and error, data travels at 2/3 the speed of light on copper and fiber, the internet provides the same functionality to everyone, the net is the fastest growing technology ever, the net promotes freedom of speech, the net is digital, and can correct errors. Connecting to the Internet cost the taxpayer little or nothing, since each node was independent, and had to handle its own financing and its own technical requirements.
The reason we chose this project is that we wondered how you get the web pages up and how we are able to view over the internet.
