What Child is This was originally written by Sir John Stainer. The tune of this song was used from another song named Greensleeves written in the 1600’s. Within the song Sir John Stainer used a few verses from a different Christmas song called The Manger Throne written by William Chatterton Dix. In 2012 Lindsey Sterling did an instrumental version of this song that I enjoy listening to. Since Lindsey’s version is instrumental I don’t know many of the words that accompliment this song. Meaning, I will talk about why I like this song, relating to its tune instead of its words. How I was first introduced to the song was my grandma wanted me to play it to her on the violin one day. I said I would and started listening to it more, while listening …show more content…
In comparison to other songs the tempo or speed of the song is relatively slow. There are not too many notes within the songs itself, which can portray a calmer effect then a song with more notes in it. As a person, I tend to enjoy some calm songs so What Child is This appealed to me as a person. The next item that appealed to me was the vibrato within it. Vibrato, a violin technique, can be used to make the piece of music sound more natural. By natural I mean sound more like you sung the piece opposed to played it. With the music sounding more like it is being sung than played, it sounds more natural. Lindsey Sterling’s version of this song utilizes vibrato making it sound more natural or sung. Whenever I hear the vibrato in this song I wish I could do vibrato. What Child is This reminds me of a goal I have which is to one day be able to do vibrato like in the …show more content…
Canon in D is one of the prettiest songs to me. If you don’t know what the Canon in D song is it is played at weddings often. Using the technique of vibrato, it can sound like singing just not as much as What Child is This. Unlike What Child is This and O Come O Come Emmanuel, Canon in D major has more notes in it that gives it a faster pace. With more notes in the music the tune of a song can vary more. What I particularly like about the earlier mentioned song is while listening to it the song kind of tells a story along with it. A lot of classical music tends to tell a story while being played, although Canon in D does it especially well. Another thing about the song for me is it’s just calming and relaxing to me. I like to play this song in the background when I am doing something such as homework. If I am stressed I play it and it can calm me down soon. Above all the other reasons, this song occupies my collection of favorite songs as a result of me wanting to one day play it on the violin. I choose the songs I eventually have a goal to play very carefully so when I do learn how to play them it can be more meaningful of an experience for me. Canon in D remains a great song that’s on my list for good
- Explain briefly what your selected ballad is about and the reasons why you picked it.
It is also the piece that had enough of an effect to make the evil man go away, in the film, Fantasia. My strongest reaction to this piece, is the warm and chilled feeling I get hearing it. The idea of developing “chilled” bones from music is amazing. I arrived at this certain place, by truly diving into the song. I really listened to it, and could hear the seriousness in the singer’s voice. I could hear and understand the passion that the musicians felt when they pressed the piano’s keyboards. The singing, along with the instruments complimenting, is astonishing. I caught myself listening to this piece during the interview, and I could imagine even an evil monster falling in love with this tune enough to turn good. I felt the drama and power in the singing, and the seriousness in the playing of the
The film has many redemptive moments and looks and feels a little creepy because of some of the songs they sang. Some of the memorable songs such as ‘’I smell children” and ‘’Come out my children’’ reveal the objectionable content of this movie. The movie includes very mild scares, and occasional rude language. The thematic content affects the experience and interpretation because it is similar to a theme and this is very important in a movie. If the theme is not well written then it will cause people to dislike the movie. Formal techniques do forward the thematic content by carrying out a specific task for the
He does this by making an appeal, giving examples and providing evidence. The song contains pathos. The song appeals to your emotions and makes you feel angry, sad and also makes you feel pity. The examples he gives during the song are scenarios. They are scenarios of what the kids his organization and the other organization are trying to prevent from happening and make people aware of.
This song describes so many people at so many times in their lives. Music is one way of explaining how you feel especially if you have a hard time getting your feelings out to someone. Music speaks louder than words.
Historical background — Research and discuss the creation of the song, why it was written, and most importantly, what historical event or situation the song responds to.
The first song played was from a genre that I had previously taken a test on, Sonata. The musicians played the song by the book. There were three movements and polyphonic texture. It was even fast and jerky. Nonetheless, this is the part where my rollercoaster was going down. In my opinion it was boring. Although very well played, the song itself did not interest me. I did not like the roadrunner, coyote essence of the song. The piano accompaniment would sometimes play the melody and let the clarinet follow and then they would switch. This to me seemed force instead of like the Sonatas that I listened to in class. However, apart from the musical aspect of the first piece there was a certain intensity expressed by the performers. I had never seen a
Many say that music has evolved over the years. This essay shall explore the elements of two versions of one song. It shall discuss the correlations and disparities of these songs and confer how it has been revolutionised to entertain the audiences of today.
The music of course was the main focus and for me I really enjoyed The fountains of Rome. This piece was near the end but I found myself to really enjoy The Fountains of the valle Giulia at Dawn which opened up with an oboe, and sounded like I was right near a fountain in the morning. Birds were chirping as the day started with a beautiful peaking of the sun beginning. The Triton Fountain in the Morning had an interesting beginning that started off with a high pitch. At first the horn frightened me but it set the tone with the violins mixed with some sort of symbol as if we were jumping right into the morning. It contained so much excitement in it, like a bursting ray of emotion. However, I did dislike one piece due to it contrasting too much to my favorite piece of the symphony. From The Pines of the Villa Borghese it came at me like a sudden rush, it abruptly ruined the subtle calm feeling I was experiencing too quickly and made it feel like I had an orchestra chasing after me. My favorite piece from the symphony was The Fountain of Rome was La fontana di villa Medici al tramonto. This one particularly caught my interest because it felt like it tied everything together by stringing emotion along. The entire songs presence was calming and subtle as everything was slowed down with a softer dynamic. What really drew me in was
So that I don’t have to explain to them what it is about. Because I will not be describing nor will I explain what the artist meant from, when he was writing the song. I will be putting my own twist and thought about it. My main purpose is to make the audience think outside the box, and see how a totally different experience or event can relate somehow back to the song. That you can take something like “love you”, and somehow connect it back to a war or a celebration. The only limitation is your own
To truly understand a piece of music or any other type of art, it is important to look at it closely and really break it down. A good way to do this is through the eight views of good art. The eight views are: permanence, craftsmanship, subtlety, broad appeal, unity and variety, emotion, economy, and imagination. This piece definitely has some permanent meaning. It may not be something that is commonly played on the radio, but it is still very popular in the world of classical music.
Secular music has been a metaphoric gift of personal expression for me. I started playing piano and taking lessons when I was 10. I started off with learning the basics, and as I got more advanced, I would play more complexed pieces. My favorite piano piece is Primavera by Ludovico Einaudi. To me this is a minimalistic piece and it allows me to lose myself in the song when I need to get my mind off of things and disconnect from the world. Another good thing about playing the piano is by knowing chords, a person can compose any music piece that expresses how they are feeling. Another song that is quite popular now days that represents the metaphoric gift of personal expression is 1-800-273-8255 by Logic. This song is about a person who struggles with their sexuality and calls the suicide prevention hotline expressing how they want to die. The person offering the emotional support then beings saying that they do not have to die today, and by the end of the song the caller is determined to keep fighting. This song has given me the gift of personal expression when I am sad. It shows me that even though many people are sad or struggling, there is always so many resources that are there to help them. It also reminds me to never give up and to keep
Music is one of the most fantastical forms of entertainment. Its history stretches all the way from the primitive polyrhythmic drums in Africa to our modern day pop music we listen to on our phones. It has the ability to amaze us, to capture our attention and leave us in awe. It soothes the hearts of billions, and it is so deeply rooted in my life that it has touched my heart as well. Everyday I walk to the beat of the song stuck in my head and hum along to the melody. For me, to listen to music be lifted into the air by the hands of your imagination and float around for a while. You forget about your worries, your troubles and find peace within the sound. Every chapter in my life is attached with a song. Every time I listen to a certain song, thoughts of my past come flooding back
My inspiration for choosing this specific song derives from my child hood; its sweet melody is played all around the world today and can most commonly be known as “The dance of the sugar plum fairy”. The melody of this song is so sweet almost like truly eating a sugarplum, it is constant, but I must admit that it does have its moments of higher tension in order to give off a more powerful aura to the character that is being portrayed. The most obvious thing to notice about this song is its celestial sounding theme, it sounds magical, or perhaps something mythical because of its delicate beginning and the almost tip toe sounds that are being played. Also, this piece by Tsychosky is most definitely consonant, the reason being that it gives of a feeling of peace and serenity, never for a moment does it gives you a feeling of sadness, or death it
I like this style of music the best because it best represents who I am and what I enjoy. The lyrics to the songs during these times were mainly fun and easily understood compared to other genres of earlier music that seemed were very dark, depressing, or hard for me to understand or relate to.
