In 1975, Ray Kroc, the Chief Executive Officer at the time, came up with a very ingenious idea. This is still used today and is very popular with many fast-food restaurants. McDonald’s invented the drive-thru, where the car pulls up to the window and orders their food. They pay their amount due at this window as well. They then go to the next window to get their food. In October 5, 1977, it was Ray Kroc’s birthday. He published a book called Grinding It Out. This book was about how the company was made, and the fundamentals of how he wanted the restaurant and business to work. He also spoke of how he wanted his customers to have great service and his great ideas over the years. Owners during the 1970’s would still not allow African-American workers to serve the food or greet the people. Most of the restaurants still allowed African-American workers, but some owners would still not allow them to work there. Some owners owned restaurants in places like Grand Rapids, Michigan. The twenty-five-billionth burger was served in the year of 1978. McDonald’s has surpassed that even further over the years, selling over 300 billion burgers today. In 1979, the restaurants released the happy meal, a meal advertised to kids which usually had a small toy for the kids to play with. The adults were very happy to have this because the kids now had meals to fit their children’s appetites and their health needs. In 1980, McDonald’s gained three major achievements. They marked their 25th anniversary since Ray Kroc opened his first restaurant. They did not celebrate that much, but they were happy nonetheless. McDonald’s also opened their 6,000th restaurant internationally in Munich, Germany. They did not stop opening restaurants interna... ... middle of paper ... ...ls to have seizures. In their pickle slices, they use an ingredient called potassium sorbate. Potassium sorbate has been shown in studies to damage genetic material and to cause mutations linked to disease. In their burgers, they have been known to use a type of “pink slime” in the past which was usually treated with ammonia. The company has said that they have stopped using this, but it is still unknown if they are still using today and if they are planning to in the future. McDonald’s currently operates in 121 countries in the world. McDonald’s is also America’s fourth largest retailer, and McDonald’s surpassed Sears as the world’s largest leader of retail estate. McDonald’s spends about $600 million on advertising each year. About 96% of American consumers have eaten at McDonald’s. It has been open for about 64 year and has sold over 300 billion burgers.
