Mass Shooting Research Paper

At the age of sixteen, I have lived through four of the largest mass shootings in the United States. Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, Pulse Nightclub, and now Las Vegas. Even if I was a hundred years old, I would still be puzzled as to why numerous innocent lives are being purposefully taken away each day. This horrendous events sparked my questions about violence.
Before the events of October 1st, 2017, I of course had questions about how the world works, but they all felt superficial. None of my questions seemed that important to me or like they critically needed an answer. As a result of hearing about this shooting, I was overwhelmed with confusion. All I saw were problems that I didn't have an answer to. These were all centered around one thing; Why is there so much violence in the world today?

As Mark Twain noted, History does not repeat itself, but it often rhymes." If Twain was still living today, I think that he would come to the conclusion that history is beginning a new rhyme.

This quote is still relevant to things that are happening in present day times. Although there has never been, or may never be another mass shooting that kills fifty-eight people, we often see similar circumstances occur. This is an example of a situation that I never want to see "rhyme" with another, in my lifetime or in anyone's in the future. As a human race, I feel like we need to take instances like this and learn from them, so that were are able to prevent, or at least make it less like that someone's life is taken in a selfish act of

violence.
I believe that to first be able to comprehend how to set up preventive measures for brutality, we must first individually understand the source and figure out how to change it. I consider violence to be a learned behavior. I have to hope that when someone is born and as they grow, they don't just sporadically have thoughts of hurting those around them. Continuing with this idea, through a person's life they are impacted by everyone and everything around them. This includes actions similar to those seen in a variety of media sources or in in real life and abuse that has happened to that particular person. These sources have to be where violence is established in person. Once these violent reactions become a natural habit for a person, others around them are now vulnerable to start acting in the same acting in the same fashion. This begins a dangerous and vicious cycle.
With all this being I said, I don't think there will ever be one true answer as to why there is violence in the world. So rather than spending my time trying to understand the chemical serotonin and it's effects on the brain, I think it's more important for me to focus my energy on the impact that I leave on people. Violence is a cycle starting with the influence of another person. Therefore, I may never know why violence occurs, but I will know what kind of impression I leave on those around me.
