We all know that one person. They are always by the teachers side. It seems like they are sucking up to get their way or receive extra attention… or extra credit. They constantly do things for the teacher and go the extra mile every time. In today’s world this is viewed as a negative thing. But I think this is the the kind of loyalty Mary Magdalene showed to Jesus during her time with Him. It seemed like she was always by His side. There are three instances in the Bible in which she was at His feet. Two of them were while Jesus was at Mary and Martha’s house eating dinner. She sat at His feet to listen and she sat at His feet to anoint His feet. The third was at “the foot of the cross” (Barry 2). I think all of these can apply to how we are …show more content…
Jesus was in Bethany six days before the Passover having dinner at Lazarus’ house. They were giving a dinner in honor of Jesus and Martha was serving food. Mary decides to go a step further and pour out a pint of expensive perfume on Jesus feet and wipe it with her hair. This was a sign of pure worship and sacrifice because the perfume cost about a year’s wages. After she did this, Judas Iscariot questions this act and says that the perfume could have been sold and the money given to the poor (Merrill). So once again, Mary receives criticism for her loyalty to Jesus. Often times people who have a worldly point of view look at the lives of Christians who live for Jesus and wonder why we live the way we do. They question our actions and use logic to disprove them. But if we stay loyal and keep the faith through the reprimanding, Jesus will honor that.
The third and final time we see Mary at the feet of Jesus is when Jesus is on the cross dying for our sins. The Bible says that she was near the cross caring for the needs of Jesus (Merrill). This time, instead of Mary being criticized, it was Jesus who was taking on all of the persecution. Unlike some of the other disciples who left when things got hard for Jesus, she stayed faithful to Him until His last
... call to be His servant. Embedded in Mary’s decision was the full awareness that she would suffer ridicule, contempt, and loneliness.
There was a Roman and Jewish trial. The Roman trial was because Jesus did not pay taxes to Caesar. and for being a “troublemaker” in Luke’s gospel. The Jewish trial was because Jesus called himself the Messiah. Yet with everything Mary stuck by his side. That puts a theory in everyone’s mind that she loved him very much. Mary was an important figure at the cross. Mary was among a few women who wept seeing Jesus suffer and die. In John’s gospel particularly in 19:25 “standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene”(Bible Verses: Mary Magdalene in Scripture). Mark’s gospel says that Mary was in the distance with the other women.
Mary Tudor or Queen Mary I of England was infamously known as Bloody Mary. While many believe Bloody Mary was an evil monster, others believe she was a great queen because of her many accomplishments. Mary was actually a good devoted Catholic others still to this day believe she was an evil woman, but with these interesting facts it will be determined that Mary was a good queen.
Imagine being one of the disciples, sitting with Jesus and a witness to the scene described in Mark Chapter fourteen, verses three through nine. It says, "...During dinner, a woman came in with a vase made of alabaster and containing very expensive perfume of pure nard. She broke open the vase and poured the perfume on his head. Some grew angry. They said to each other, 'Why waste the perfume? This perfume could have been sold for almost a year’s pay and the money given to the poor.' And they scolded her. Jesus said, 'Leave her alone. Why do you make trouble for her? She has done a good thing for me. You always have the poor with you; and whenever you want, you can do something good for them. But you won’t always have me….” From that scene one could make the argument that Jesus didn't care for the poor. However, knowing the character of Jesus one could also surmise that this was not an excuse for inaction among Christians. Jesus was habitually made known His purpose for coming. That purpose always included the poor and disenfranchised, as mentioned in Luke
The Painting Martha and Mary Magdalene is one of the many masterpieces in the DIA’s collection in Detroit. Although there is much more to understanding a work of art then just looking at it. In order to understand a piece, you have to understand the Artist, the time period, and the symbols in that painting that may have very different meaning today.
Mary was a good person until the end of Act 3. John took to the court to prove that Abigail was lying, but Mary was so scared and in the attempts to prove the girls wrong she couldn't. She just wouldn't talk and she would stand there silent. This was because when they left to marry alone in the cabin, the girls came in and were scaring her. She thought if she said something they would turn on her, And when it came to the point in the lake she made the mistake and died with Abigail and the girls.
Mary Rose was a young adult living about 2 hours away from Philadelphia. Mary Rose was currently living a very rough life full of an uncaring mother, and abusive almost stepfather, and a struggle to find any friends. Mary however surrendered to God. In Luke 1:38 she said "I am the Lord's servant". This statement was a full surrender to God's will even though there can be many misunderstandings and even possible persecution.
Mary is also the major influence on religious education in schools around Australia even still today. Her work is the base for what students in schools today have come to experience. Mary has impacted on children’s religious education and through this; their morals and values. Mary is a role model and a prime example to students in today’s catholic schools, for a way to devote lives to helping others and living how Jesus would want us to.
Mary of Bethany did what she believed was right and also was able to mourn with Christ. When Martha wanted to make the stay of Jesus as perfect
"Let them eat cake," said Marie Antoinette as a queen of France, but when she was just at the age of 37 she was charged with incest and much more due to the anti-royal sentiment of the French revolution. The remarkable thing about Marie Antoinette was the fact that even though she seemed to have it all together and be on top of the world as Queen of France she had her life ended by the guillotine.

One of the most perplexing events in the ministry of Jesus Christ is His resurrection from the dead. Many skeptics look at it as made up stories or hallucinations, or mass hysteria, yet the biblical accounts and other evidences point to another conclusion. This research paper will explore three pieces of evidence that the resurrection story is factual and can be accepted as a historical event.
Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley was born in London, England on August 30, 1797. She married a man named Percy Bysshe Shelley in 1816 (Patterson 1). Percy was a poet at the time, and two years after Mary married Percy she wrote her most famous book, Frankenstein, or a Modern Prometheus (Patterson 1). Based on Shelley’s legacy she was born to be a writer, and it was inevitable that one day she would make a worthy contribution to literature (D’Amato 119). Shelley’s mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, was a writer and leader of the feminist movement, and William, Shelley’s father, wrote a political treatise in 1793. William wrote about what happened during the French Enlightenment (D’Amato 119).
Disciplines of worship put us in a place to be receptive and responsive to the Holy Spirit 's movements and invitations. This is a theme that is demonstrated throughout the bible through disciples committed to knowing God better. The perfect picture of worship can be described as not by a priest, king or prophet. Not in a temple or a church and with no music or singing. This act of worship is depicted in Luke 7:36-48. This is the story of when Jesus was anointed by a sinful woman. This story is one of worship, as the “woman sat at the feet of Jesus and washed his feet with her tears, then wiped them with her hair.” For her to come to the banquet at Simon the Pharisee 's house is an interesting component of the scripture. She is viewed as a sinner, one who conveys uncleanness by her very touch, almost as if she has a communicable
