Abigail Williams deserves 40% of the blame because she has done a lot of bad things in her life, for example, she was lying about the things she saw just because she wanted to be with John Proctor. She and the girls were lying about the things they saw to save themselves but during this process, 19 people ended up dying, and when John tried to prove her wrong by saying he knew her she denied it, in the movie Abigail says, “– If I must answer that, I will leave and I will not come back again!” This shows us that she does have something that she is hiding because if she didn’t have an affair with Proctor then she would have said so and even after the proctor ruined his name for his wife they still have a lot of fun. didn’t believe him, he said. …show more content…

This just goes to show how much power Abigail has over the judges and the town. John Proctor has 10% of the blame because if this man didn't do "it" with a child, this could have been ignored. Anyway, aside from that, Proctor did do some bad things with his time in Salem. Other than having an affair and lying to his wife, he did try to do some good things in the witch trials, he was trying to prove Abigail wrong. When the proctor went to court with Abigail and the girls to try to prove them wrong, he told the court, “I know her, sir! I have known her”, This shows how dedicated he is to proving Abigail wrong. By doing this he was trashing his name, he said this at the court they still didn't believe him because they brought his wife in to see if it was true and she said no. Mary was a good person until the end of Act 3. John took to the court to prove that Abigail was lying, but Mary was so scared and in the attempts to prove the girls wrong she couldn't. She just wouldn't talk and she would stand there silent. This was because when they left to marry alone in the cabin, the girls came in and were scaring her. She thought if she said something they would turn on her, And when it came to the point in the lake she made the mistake and died with Abigail and the girls. She said that Proctor made her do it, that he was working with the devil, and that he planned all of this. When she went with Abigail this turned the whole thing around Mary may have not gotten most of the blame but she did make a big mistake in blaming John and siding with the girls. Reverend Hale played a significant role in the Salem witch trials, this is why he deserves 5% of the blame. At first, he believed in the Witchcraft and supported the accusations which made the town have a lot of trust in him. However, as the trial went on Reverend Hale began to question the fairness of the Court and girls, and he tried to make things right again. His journey from believing in witchcraft to doubting it showed us how he realized the mistake that we're being made. while he tried to undo the damage caused by the trials.
