Marilyn Monroe, also known as, Norma Jeane, Norma Jeane Baker, Norma Jeane Mortenson, or Norma Jean depending on how you would like to spell it. Before Monroe was born there is some information about Norma Jeane. Norma Jean was born on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, California. On her Birth Certificate, her “father”, Edward Mortenson, and her mother Gladys was a supposed chaotic, desperate, and a lunatic, so she was sent to a psychiatric, unit after Norma Jean's birth. When Marilyn was born, she claimed that her mother tried to smother her when she was in her crib, Della Monroe, her grandmother, tried to smother her in her crib as well when she was 13 months old shortly before her mother was instituted, this is her earliest memory. Norma didn't know where she belonged or what to really call home growing up. On September 13, 1935, Norma would stay in an orphanage she had said that she stayed for a couple months to a couple years. When she was transferred to an orphanage, Norma was forced to go by being dragged, she would be screaming, and kicking,“I’m not an Orphan!”
As she became Marilyn Monroe claimed she had been raped and molested as a child. Norma Jean told Lloyd Sherer, publicity officer at Twentieth Century-Fox, she had been assaulted by one of her guardians, raped by a policeman, and attacked by a sailor. Lloyd admitted that she must have been living in her own fantasy world. Even Spoto, one of her sympathetic biographers, reported a story of a 13-year-old cousin who “sexually assaulted” her but didn't publish the story because it was inappropriate.
In another foster home with The Kimmel's, Norma was raped by the father of the house at the age of eight. Mr. Kimmel had locked the doors and put his arms around her whispering “Be a good girl,” when Norma told Mrs. Kimmel she had slapped the young girl for telling lies.
