Marilyn Monroe, also known as, Norma Jeane, Norma Jeane Baker, Norma Jeane Mortenson, or Norma Jean depending on how you would like to spell it. Before Monroe was born there is some information about Norma Jeane. Norma Jean was born on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, California. On her Birth Certificate, her “father”, Edward Mortenson, and her mother Gladys was a supposed chaotic, desperate, and a lunatic, so she was sent to a psychiatric, unit after Norma Jean's birth. When Marilyn was born, she claimed that her mother tried to smother her when she was in her crib, Della Monroe, her grandmother, tried to smother her in her crib as well when she was 13 months old shortly before her mother was instituted, this is her earliest memory. Many biographers

and interviewers didn't believe this accusation.
A few after Norma was born, she was sent to The Boldeners, a foster home, her early years were either spent with her mother, in foster homes and orphanages.

Norma didn't know where she belonged or what to really call home growing up. On September 13, 1935, Norma would stay in an orphanage she had said that she stayed for a couple months to a couple years. When she was transferred to an orphanage, Norma was forced to go by being dragged, she would be screaming, and kicking,“I’m not an Orphan!”

As she became Marilyn Monroe claimed she had been raped and molested as a child. Norma Jean told Lloyd Sherer, publicity officer at Twentieth Century-Fox, she had been assaulted by one of her guardians, raped by a policeman, and attacked by a sailor. Lloyd admitted that she must have been living in her own fantasy world. Even Spoto, one of her sympathetic biographers, reported a story of a 13-year-old cousin who “sexually assaulted” her but didn't publish the story because it was inappropriate.

In another foster home with The Kimmel's, Norma was raped by the father of the house at the age of eight. Mr. Kimmel had locked the doors and put his arms around her whispering “Be a good girl,” when Norma told Mrs. Kimmel she had slapped the young girl for telling lies. Mr. Kimmel tried to silence Norma by bribing her with a nickel, which she declined by throwing it at his face. Soon after Norma’s 16th birthday she later married James Dougherty, this was a forced

marriage.
On August 24th, 1946 Norma Jeane had become Marilyn Monroe. Ben Lyon at Twentieth Century-Fox said “I know who you are, you're Marilyn!”, her only concern was if she could use her mother’s maiden name. Marilyn was scared of change, she felt that the change in her name was artificial but after a while, she said,”Well I guess I’m Marilyn Monroe.” After the name change, Monroe enjoyed writing her name on a notepad with two large curly Ms’. Marilyn only wanted to be called by her new name she asked for nothing more nothing less.
Marilyn Monroe from 1946-1962, the name Monroe was loud and proud through Hollywood. Marilyn bought a house located at 12305 Fifth Helena Drive, a Spanish bungalow in Brentwood, California. Marilyn had already been divorced three times by Arthur Miller, James Dougherty, and Joe DiMaggio. Marilyn Monroe was a beautiful woman and everyone adored her work, she was in magazines, calendars, movies and more. There had been rumors that she had a sexual relationship with President John F. Kennedy.
Marilyn Monroe was known to be a feminist and a lady of the evening, she was a sore thumb in the crowd. As Norma Jeane became Marilyn Monroe we have learned to know today was with hard work. Marilyn referred her face to a painting that was not yet finished, at the time she had different ideas for her body, she could be from bust 37in, hips 37in, waist 24in and be 120 pounds, or she could be 118 pounds depending on the person writing it down.
August 4, 1962, Marilyn Monroe's body was found, she had died of an overdose of barbiturates also known as an antidepressant. No note was left behind only a dozen half empty pill bottles by her bed, she was found the next day by her housekeeper. The official verdict was “probable suicide”, some stories believe that Marilyn Monroe committed suicide at the end of her love affair and career, others say the CIA or the FBI wanted her dead because of her “relationship” with John F. Kennedy. To this day her death still remains unknown.
