Recommended: The role and duties of slaves in classical Greece

A standard slave from the Greek isles named Quintus was taken in by Marcus the lanista at an early age. Marcus determined that Quintus is best suited to be a Dimachaeri or a light armored person with two swords. Quintus was put in a ring with another new person, he was given two rudis (wooden swords) and his training commenced. Over time Quintus was given two real swords and practiced tricks on dummies strung on rope. A Dimachaeri is a light armored gladiator that uses two curved swords called a sica. The word Dimachaerus translates to bearing two swords. This type of gladiator would normally fight heavily armored and slower gladiator.
