Mara Salvatrucha, commonly known as MS-13, was founded in the city of Los Angeles during the ‘80s. Members in the gang have spread out into at least forty-two states. The ethnicity of the gang mostly consist of Salvadorians, Hondurans, Guatemalans, Mexicans and other Central and South American Immigrants. Much of their criminal activity involves drug distribution, murder, prostitution, rape, kidnapping, robbery, car jacking, and home invasion. Once a member is brought in to the gang, they are in for life. The Crips were established in 1969 out of the city of Los Angeles. The gang has expanded beyond LA with between 30,000-35,000 members in Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Some recent members include rappers Snoop Dogg (now Snoop Lion) and Easy-E. Most Crips are African American but some white, Hispanic and Asian members have been initiated. Just like the Hells Angels, the gang was powerful, spread across mostly southern California and fourteen other states, along with other members over seas in Australia, Mexico and parts of Europe. They also take part in the same criminal activity including extortion and drug dealing. The two gang’s butted heads in Nevada in 2002, resulting in the death of a Mongol and two Hells Angels. The Mongols have a more violent culture because of their pattern of recruiting from street gangs, which bring with them a more bloodthirsty "revenge" culture.
