Is college worth all the stress of paying for it? People spend thousands of dollars with multiple jobs or student loans trying to pay for it. Alana Semuels wrote an article called “Manual Labor, All Night Long: The Reality of Paying for College”, stating the stories of young students who are working hard to be all that they can be. College is stressful and working a job at the same times makes it that much more stressful.
Alana Semuels writes about a young student paying her way through college by working nights at UPS. She is working crazy hours to afford going to college. The government provides help though the FAFSA and student loans. Schools provide scholarships and work study programs. All of that is to help people pay for college. Of all those options what is the most realistic, student loans or working crazy hours to pay for it? She has a crazy busy schedule that she must manage, and it is hard. As a college student I am working two jobs while going to school and keeping track of it all is very complicated. The stress to be able to manage both is ever present. I, like many other students, must work to be able to go to college but must maintain the grades to stay. The issue is figuring out when too much is too much. How much is it worth to go to college with these intense stressors. One of the things that take a major hit when working and going to school is a social life. You do not have time to go out because you have work and school.
