Many people have dreams of being a part of the music industry and becoming successful musicians, but do not seem to do the research necessary to make the dream come true. The music industry is a branch of the entertainment industry and is where music, whether it is recordings or performances, is distributed and sold to the public. One of the problems is that people do not realize the risks that come with being a part of the music industry and being a musician. There are many factors that come into play when deciding to pursue a career in the music industry. Factors would include having noteworthy knowledge of music, originality, publicity, and business entitlement. To even begin thinking about a successful career in the music industry, having an excellent base knowledge of instruments, or music in general, is key. One thing that everyone must do is summarized in one simple word called “practice”. While it may seem cliché to hear this, it is one thing most people lack of and seem to find is not as important as other factors. A way to approach practice effectively is to first find a suitable music teacher that gives quality lessons and connects with their students. The only way to make practice count is to practice in a way that improvement is shown and time is not wasted. Even with practice, however, one must also have the drive and persistence to allow themselves to weather through tough times of hard to learn skills. The key to remember is that there is always room for improvement. In the article “Not Your Ordinary Rockers”, Brandon Boyd, lead singer in the band Incubus, describes his music career. The music industry’s history is a convoluted mess. There is no real consensus on what the music industry IS and what paths it has taken. Were the Beatles the greatest band to ever exist? Maybe. Is there a hyper objectification of women throughout the “men’s club” that is the music industry? Probably. It’s this hard to define, frankly confusing business that is worth roughly $130 billion dollars today. With it’s flimsy and opaque edges, can the music industry ever be called into question on its wrongdoings? The racist undertone throughout its history may force it to. With the music industry as an ever growing business that seems to change almost every decade, the one thing that has not changed throughout time is an undercurrent of racism that
Furthermore, learning the fundamentals of the music business is beneficial in many ways. In other words, talents are needed and the only way to achieve that is if you work continuously hard. Moreover, if new artist become proficient in their talent along with hard work, then success becomes reachable and introduces the theory that, if an artist works hard then they are able to play hard.

Music Business Music Business Exam Number One Question 1 - What is The music publishing industry at a glance would seem to be those who print sheet music, method books, lead sheets, and all of the texts or notated music that musicians (and those aspiring to be musicians) use. Years ago, this was what most music publishers did, but as the industry has evolved, the process has become much more complex. Music is not just ink and paper, intellectual material and property to the individual who writes it. Therefore, the song does not become "a song" when it is written down. This is not an easy concept to grasp because the song itself has no physical makeup.
The topic that I decided to research this semester is songwriters in the music business and what is required for them to have success in the music industry. There are many different aspects that come into play when determining how successful a record becomes. I will look into the compensation of songwriters, music industry relations, the legal aspects behind the music industry, and more. Songwriters are among the most overlooked in regards to the success of an artist. The general public is not aware of the process that takes place with every song they hear.
The music industry is increasingly competitive with a very low growth, yet a college degree will be essential to succeed. College broadens the technical, mechanical, social, psychological, and philosophical phase of music that is essential to connect with people of all genres. With no education
Patrick Hess of the Huffington Post describes, “One of the most frustrating parts of being an artist today is understanding that timing is everything. No matter how much talent, charisma, good looks, or whatever other ingredient you may think is important, timing is the one thing that trumps everything. Market niche or the need for what an artist is making will dictate how much attention people give to the music being made.” One could say that there is a blueprint that needs to be met in order to make a career in today’s music industry. Some of the categories within this formula include timing, demand, talent, image and brand, finance and sales, and marketing (Hess).
There are some people in this world who always inexplicably know what they’re doing; amazing visionaries such as Andrew Lloyd Webber, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Beyonce. I, unfortunately, have never been one of those people. My path to this moment only became clear quite recently, but I know in my heart that music is something that I have to pursue in order to fully get everything I can from life. For what seems like my entire life, I’ve been drawn to music.
Music piracy is a developing problem that it affects the music industry in many different ways including being responsible for the unemployment of 750,000 workers, as well as a loss of $2,5 billion; therefore, I want to explore ‘To what extent has music piracy affected the music industry market in the United States over the last 10 years?’
The process of choosing a career is, many times, a difficult decision. Many factors must be taken into account while deciding a career. Such factors usually include pay, work environment, and most importantly, what the person is interested in. Becoming a musician would be a highly fulfilling career for the reasons of broadening one’s musical abilities, people enjoying something that an individual made, and traveling the country, possibly even the world, for musical opportunities such as teaching, performing, and writing.
