Sinclair Lewis makes point of the efforts that Carol produces to reform her new home. These efforts can be perceived by the townspeople as unwelcomed and unsuccessful. Some of Carol’s ideas are ludicrous, out of proportion and not ready for the slow-moving town. She tries several different approaches to reforming the town from the moment of her arrival. She goes from architectural reform to poetic reform to artistic to introducing liberalism to amusing social functions. All of these tactics she hopes will spring forth a reform movement to beautify and culturalize the town and people. Her initial attempts at bringing the town out of its shell consisted of throwing fun and exciting parties. Such as her Chinese house-warming party on page 66. She plans this social event as a way to bring the people out of their normal funeral parlor routine of sitting in a circle and making small talk. For the moment she is successful, but soon after she implements sledding, skiing and skating outings, people begin to recoil back into their normal routines. Again, Carol is frustrated with the progress of the town, and she soon feels rejected by the social elite at the Jolly Seventeen club on page 78. Her attempts to open the minds of the Jolly Seventeen to the issues of the lower class, backfires into a discussion of foreign incompetencies and laziness. Her reputation becomes the antithesis of Gopher Prairie social beliefs and structure. After presumably months of social reclusion, Carol is coe...
In the novel Grand Avenue. Greg Sarris uses the theme thread of poison to connect all of his separate stories about the Toms’, a Pomo Indian family. He proves that the roots of a family are the basis which gives the family its structure, even if those roots are bad. In the Toms’ family they’re roots were poisoned from the very founding of the family starting with Sam Toms’. His poison was not the fact that he tried to steal a married woman away, but that he was filled with secrets, deceptions, and self hatred. His family was founded on these poisened roots and passes the poisen down generation after gerneration. The only way to stop the poison, or inner self hatred taken out in other forms, was to let go of past and talk about the secrets and lies. Once a person does this they are able to learn from their mistake , in a sense the break free from the poison. If Sam Toms’ , the founder or root of the family, would have broken free of his poisen by talking about his mistake he made, his whole family per haps would have turned out completely different. As a result of his secrets and lies his family was rasied to make the same immoral desisions as he made throughout his life. His family, like Sam, didn't take responcilblity for their mistakes, which spread the poison onto the next generation. Tracing the poison throughout the Tom’s beginning at the roots, shows just how important the roots indeed are.
The Wrights home was a poor, lonely type of home. The trees that surround the house grew in a sad state. The road that led up to the farm was an unoccupied path. Minnie Wright is the woman who lives on these lonely grounds. She is friendless and mostly keeps to herself. There is no one for her to talk to, her husband died recently, thus, she lives out her life as an outcast. In hindsight, Mrs. Hale, a woman who knows Mrs. Wright, explains to her friend, “'But I tell you what I do wish, Mrs. Peters I wish I had come over sometimes when she was here I wish– I had.’ I [too] wish I had come over to see Minnie sometimes.’” Since no one takes the time out of their busy schedules to visit Mrs. Wright, Minnie feels unwanted.

The OJ Simpson case has been hailed "The Trial of the Century." One of the longest running court trials in history, this case was filled with conspiracy, controversy, and the power of celebrity. The biggest part of the trial was the evidence. The submission of the blood samples, the DNA testing, and the articles of clothing made the case what it was. Amidst all the accusations of planted evidence and conspiracy plans against Simpson, the jury and Judge Ito had to try to sift through and find Simpson guilty or not guilty.
There are many evidence that support why OJ Simpson was the murdered for his wife Nicole Brown and her acquaintance Ronald Goldman. Police respond to a 911 call on New Year's Day 1989 to find a bruised and bleeding Nicole hiding in the bushes, wearing only a bra and sweatpants, crying: "He's going to kill me! He's going to kill me!" The judge gave him two years of probation, 120 hours of community service, and he was ordered to give $500 to a shelter for battered women this shows that OJ Simpson and Nicole Brown Simpson already developed a very abusive relationship . Furthermore, on June 22, 1994 District Attorney’s office leaked the media t...
To begin with, Iago in the play has a complete lack of empathy towards his peers and general surrounding; although Iago seems to care about his friends, most sociopaths are liked because of their charm and high charisma but they do not care about others. The problem with the Iago's lack of empathy is that he is the reason there are conflicts in the whole play. The life of Othello and Desdemona as well as Cassio and Roderigo would be without problems if it were not for Iago. Since the beginning of the play Iago explains his hatred for Othello for making Cassio lieutenant and he would go to far lengths to take his rightful position just as an average sociopath of our time would. Iago demonstrates no empathy in the acts that he commits towards everyone in the play; he pulls off such acts by following the footsteps of his preferred god, Janus. Janus is the two faced god in which Iago praises; Iago establishes this connection by seeming to be someone he is not. Iago in the play is known as Hones...
A copious amount of DNA evidence left at the scene of the crime and at the Simpson residence proves Simpson’s involvement in the murders. Lack of attention to detail resulted in Simpson leaving his own blood along with the blood of both victims in numerous places. Evidence at the scene of the

As discussed in our class before, it is a common belief that all humans have a touch of evil in them and that certain situations bring that evil to the surface, the degree and context of evil depends on the person and can it can lead to different courses of action. In the case of Iago, he did not need a specific event or situation for his evil side to surface it was already showing in his personality. The evil inside Iago was the pleasure he gained from causing harm to the lives of others, he showed this throughout the play through his interactions with others. These interactions show that Iago was neither jealous nor insane when he plotted against Othello but that it was just his nature to cause harm to the environment surrounding him.

Unfortunately the one time I didn’t want to be right I was. Isn’t that the way it always works? I guess so.
Group therapy has long been a tool used by therapists, and its effectiveness has been highly researched. Burlingame, MacKenzie, and Strauss (2004) conducted a meta-analysis, which examined 107 studies and 14 meta-analyses on the effectiveness of group therapy for various psychiatric disorders. The results showed adequate evidence to say group therapy was as effective as individual therapy, whether used by itself or in addition to individual therapy. Furthermore, the authors found that group therapy is successful with patients diagnosed with severe mental illness (SMI), including schizophrenia and mood disorders. Despite the fact their meta-analysis was not based on inpatient group therapy, the results lend support for the effectiveness of group

Where I live is one of the greatest neighborhoods in the city to live in; however it does have its draw backs. Importantly it has nearly everything a resident might want, beautiful picturesque scenery, proximity to shopping, and many of the cultural centers. Nevertheless the roads can be some of the most congested in town, and the streets are not safe to walk late at night.
