Macy’s is a large, diverse retail corporation. Diversity is one of the business cores of the company; their diversity strategy is based on their international and multicultural advertising and marketing. I choose this organization because their business core values are based on diversity and inclusion. This particular company values diversity and inclusion at the same time. Having a diverse corporate culture is part of being a successful and well-known business around the world. The company is also known for its commitment and demonstrations of a diverse culture. They have a very large and diverse customers and suppliers group.

Macy’s are women and minorities. They choose their suppliers and employees based on a diversify market. To complete this diversity audit, I am going to use different methods and steps to retrieve my primary and secondary data. I will write a questionnaire as a primary research to ask to the HR department at Macy’s. This questionnaire will includes questions about areas like advertising, recruitment and hiring interview process i.e.: if they ask questions about race, color, religion, age, organizational culture, people friendly workplace. In order for me to complete this diversity audit, I had to conduct also a secondary research was focus on Macy’s website, numerous articles that I found online and their annual reports. My main Focus with this interviews and researches includes majors dimensions of the diversity regarding: ➢ Ethnicity/race/ color of employees ➢ Gender ➢ Age ➢ Sexual orientation ➢ Religious beliefs Criteria: Based on the criteria and my results of my research, a good diversify company like Macy’s should have: A training program that explores all the aspects of a diversity groups, that means that Macy’s should have a very good and strong training program for their employees that are going to show them how to treat their customer’s right.

growth.” Another criteria that I looked at are the policies that should prohibit discrimination against employees and customers; Macy’s prohibits the judgments of people based on race, color, age etc.…. However, there was a case in 2014, regarding an African-American lady shopper that got humiliated and stops by Macy’s security after buying luxurious bag. The color of your skin should not determine your ability to pay a lot of money for a bag. In other words, the security should not stops the lady just because she got an expensive bag and thinking that she cannot afford it. She decided to file a lawsuit against Macy’s and she won $650,000. After exploring at the website of Macy’s, I saw that their models are not diversifying as they pretend to be. Especially on the Suits and Ties sections in the clothing department, most of the models in this departments are young white color guys, I found just few of dark skin guys wearing theses suits which means that Macy’s is doing a discrimination against the dark skin people regarding their education or maybe their entrepreneurship. To be a complete diversifies company, they need to balance these problems, in the suits departments they need to have as much black men as white men wearing these suits. Also, regarding that department, there is no senior’s models, and I think that seniors should wear suits as well; the company needs to look at that point. A few years ago, Macy’s fired a worker for transgender discrimination, the employee told the guy straight up that he is a man and he cannot change in the women dressing room, and the guy was a transgender.
In Macy’s policy, they allow transgender people to change in the dressing room of the gender they associated with. The employee refuses to comply with the policy. The employee religious beliefs prevent her from recognizing transgender people. The employee should have followed the rules at the workplace even though it is not part of her religious beliefs. Macy’s needs to change its women leadership in the company and have a balance within the company to be a perfect diversify organization. Today they have more women working in the stores than men and that is consider as a
discrimination Macy’s do not have stores outside of the United States, they need to go global and worldwide, and recently, I have heard on the news that in 2018 they will have stores somewhere in the Middle East. Their stores are too much centered in the United States. Primary research Women represent a large number of workers at Macy’s and a large amount of the management level is women, which are a discrimination against men. When I walked in the store, I found that there were more female than male employees, which is a diversity problem. Most of the women were working in the beauty, handbags, apparel and kids section I did not see one man in the fragrances section in one of the store in Orlando. Men were mostly in the home appliances and men’s apparel departments. I was surprise however about the mixture of both young and old generations. These women were actually white middle age and old ladies with only five guys, one in the shoes department, one in the bed and home appliances and 3 in the men clothing department. I did not expect that many women in the store when I walked in there; I went to see a lady in a HR department to ask her some questions.
