Never assume you know what's going to happen because it can always change. Fate is letting life take its course but if you learn what that fate is, would it still be fate or do you control that fate so it is modified into a new path. Many people believe free will over the idea of fate. The witches prophecies changed Macbeth's life by choice. Macbeth chooses to betray Banquo and kill Duncan. Therefore Macbeth is controlling his decisions. When Macbeth and Banquo get their prophecies from the three witches, Macbeth is suddenly jealous that Banquo will create a line of kings while Macbeth will be the only King Macbeth. He is going to let fate take its course and wait to eventually become the Thane of Cawdor and Macbeth says,Quote integration “(aside) If chance will have me king, why, chance may crown me Without my stir” (1.3.147-149). Macbeth thinks it would be impossible for him to be king but when he talks to Lady Macbeth she says “Hie thee hither, that I may pour my spirits in thine ear And chastise with the valor of my tongue” (1.4.15-17). This shows that Lady Macbeth will try and persuade Macbeth to become king which shows that fate will not run its course because she will be interfering with it and therefore become a choice by Macbeth on whether or not he actually wants to become King. For Macbeth to become King he must make a decision on his own, and fate can't control his destiny, only he can. Lady Macbeth is still persuading him to become the King but the only way he can do that is if he kills duncan and Macbeth says “I am settled, and bend up Each corporal agent to this terrible feat.” (1.7.79-80). This proves that macbeth will kill Duncan to become king as a decision he made with no fate involved.
