During this time, in the 1950’s, the CIA had begun the MK ULTRA experiments, The operation began in the early 1950s, was officially sanctioned in 1953, was slightly reduced in scope in 1964, diminished further in 1967, officially ending in 1973. The program engaged in many illegal activities, including the use of unwitting U.S. and Canadian citizens as its test subjects, which led to controversy regarding its legitimacy. MK ULTRA used numerous methods to manipulate people's mental states and alter brain functions, including the covert administration of drugs (especially LSD) and other chemicals, hypnosis, sensory deprivation, isolation, verbal and sexual abuse, as well as other forms of psychological torture. This is strange but certainly …show more content…
Even though the most talked about aspect of MK ULTRA was the CIA's LSD work there were also many other experiments conducted. The program included many other unusual investigations relating to the science of mind control. CIA researchers investigated the potential of numerous Para psychological phenomena, such as hypnosis, telepathy, precognition, photo kinesis and remote viewing (The ability to leave your body and move around with only your consciousness). These studies werent conducted to merely scratch the CIA's curious itch. The CIA was looking for weapons that would give the United States the upper hand in the mind wars. Because of this objective, the CIA poured millions of dollars into studies investigating literally dozens of methods of influencing and controlling the …show more content…
When an investigation of CIA abuses exposed the facts in 1975, two White House aides named Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld helped set up a meeting at which President Gerald Ford apologized to the Olson family. The goal, according to a declassified White House memo, was to avert a lawsuit in which it "may become apparent that we are concealing evidence for national security
I thought it was cruel that they manipulated these prisoners and gave them long-term behavioral problems, such as nausea, paralysis, and helplessness. For example, one of the Holmesburg victims—Jesse Williams—experienced abuse by “physicians and technicians had rubbed acid into his scrotum until skin fell away—all for three dollars a session” (244). Holmesburg Prison experiments occurred during 1962-1968 and tested 153 experimental drugs on victims in the prison. These prisoners were inoculated with herpes, vaccinia, and viruses. Based on the research files, there was not an indication of them and the uprisings of drugs preformed were also
After observing the documentary “Acres of Skin”, I realized that we as humans can be cruel. The torturing in the Holmesburg prison held from 1950s until about 1970s and the terrible things that happened in this video that took place long before I was born is was hard to watch. Dr. Albert Kligman came to Holmesburg originally to look at. Other experiments used the inmates as test subjects for far more hazardous even potentially lethal, substances such as radioactive isotopes dioxin, and chemical warfare agent’s prisoners undergo experiments. Leotus Jones and David Price are some of the former prisoners that were involved in the human experimentation at Holmesburg prison. I believe that the prisoners didn’t not deserve what the punishments that

In reality, he and his security advisor, Admiral John Poindexter, had lied to Congress, shredded evidence, and refused to inform the President of details in order to guarantee his “plausible deniability”. Ultimately, the Iran-Contra investigation raised more questions than it answered. Reagan held fast to his plea of ignorance, the full role of the CIA director remained murky, and the role of Vice President Bush remained mysterious as well. The Iran-Contra affair revealed how secretive government officials undermine the Constitution and compromise Presidential authority under the facade of patriotism.
Epstein shows the process that the majority of Jews were being put through, such as the medical examinations, medical experimentations, gas chambers and crematoriums. Medical examinations were used to determine if the Jews were healthy enough to work. Dr. Mengele used the Jews as “lab rats” and performed many experiments such as a myriad of drug testing and different surgeries. The gas chamber was a room where Jews were poisoned to death with a preparation of prussic acid, called Cyclo...
The Manhattan Project was a research project, that created the United States first nuclear weapon, and led to its creation of the nuclear department during world War II. The M.A.U.D. group was created in 1940. Also, M.A.U.D was the secret name given to the group and it came from a phrase in a message from Niel Bohr (Cohen). This group produced a report that said that producing a fission bomb was possible to make. James Chadwick, a new member of the British M.A.U.D group, later wrote that at that time he realized that a nuclear bomb was able to be built in his lifetime. After being taken by the Germans convinced others that they still had the lead in developing a fission weapon.
I’m glad I chose this topic because it’s very interesting. I have learned a lot about the Manhattan Project. If I were the man in charge, I don’t think I could murder 90,000 innocent civilians. That was a gutsy

Despite all of the security used by the officials in charge of the “Manhattan Project,” soviet spies managed to leak information to the Soviet Union that allowed them to create a nuclear bomb of their own. Klaus Fuchs, an important scientist to the “Manhattan Project,” managed to move throughout the project and provide crucial information to the Soviets. David Greenglass also provi...
Pentagon Papers: The Truth to War. On June 31, 1971, President Nixon picked up a copy of his New York Times newspaper and found the 1st story on the Pentagon Papers. Daniel Ellsberg knew that the government was hiding something.
Despite the national attention the Watergate scandal had gained President Nixon, he won the second term presidency. The major problem for Nixon would come later. The investigations of the Watergate scandal lead to the discovery of other criminal acts by officials including Nixon. During the investigation many things begin to surface. It was discovered that documents had been destroyed that may have made a link between Nixon and the Watergate scandal. These documents may have shown that he had some acknowledgement in what had happened. There was evidence that people involved in the Nixon campaign had been wire tapping phones illegally for a long time according to “dummies.com”. The greatest issue would come to light during the 1973 Watergate hearings. During testimonies it came to light that every conversation was recorded in the Oval office according to “study.com”. It was demanded that these tapes be reviewed to learn how much involvement President Nixon had in the Watergate burglary. The President felt that he had the right to withhold these tapes through what he referred to as executive privilege. This means that if it is the best interest of the public the president has the right to keep information from the

The standards of morality are often violated during war. No one even question the ethics of certain actions until all is set and done, especially the victors. It then comes without surprise that the brain child of the Manhattan Project was one of these morally turbulent actions. The Manhattan Project, started in 1942. It consisted of a small group of government recruited scientists, physicists, chemist, metallurgists and engineers. Lead by Robert Oppenheimer in charge of developing nuclear arms [1].
As television exposed the truth of government, so did Journalists. Daniel leaking of the Pentagon Papers that explained in detail the Vietnam War, and the leaking of the information to the New York Times in 1971. Scandals like this played an active role throughout the late 1960’s and into the early 1970’s. This eventually led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon in 1974. The critical stand point of the journalists led to the marked contradictory of American politics that grew into turbulent during the 1960s.
