The Golden Ass was about a young man, Lucius , on his journey.
A story of his adventures and slight misfortunes Lucius: the traveler and protagonist, the story is of his journey. In the Golden Ass, Lucius was inspired by his own self-will and allows his curiosity to overcome him, ignoring the advice from other peoples. At the beginning of the story, Lucius is fascinated by witchcraft and unreality things. This as a result made Lucius turned into a donkey and has lots of crazy adventures. In the end, Lucius regrets of his actions, embraces the monastery, lives like a normal human being again, and bless God. She transforms in to a bird and left the scene. Meanwhile, Lucius wants to transforms into a bird too. This quote shows an imagery where Lucius’s transformation.“ ..my hair became coarse and shaggy , my soft hardened into hide, my fingers and toes lost their separate identity and coalesced into hooves, and from the end of my spine there protrude a long tail. My face became enormous and my mouth widened; my nostrils dilated and my lips hung down; and my ears became monstrously long and hairy.” ( Apuleius pg.52 Paragraph 24) He attempts to turn himself into a bird but instead its transforms into an donkey. Being a donkey was humiliating experience for the young man, and his life was a misfortunes. The ass symbolizes how Lucius is lack of wisdom and sense. Lucius's journey as a donkey teaches him valuable lessons where you should not play with magic.
