Love at first sight is not real

Love at first sight is often played upon in many movies like 21 First Dates, where Adam Sandler meets Drew Barrymore and he has to make her fall in love with him everyday however, in reality it’s close to impossible to meet the man of your dreams when there are over 2 billion men in the world. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo falls in love with Juliet, well “at first sight”. But, love at first sight isn’t exactly real because in the play, two people tell Romeo and Juliet to be mindful of there actions. This is shown when Friar Laurence tells Romeo multiple times to love moderately and when Juliet’s Nurse threatens Romeo to not be leading Juliet on. Also, Juliet’s own nurse tells her she’s made a bad choice in a man. “Love at first sight isn’t real”
In Friar Laurence’s cell, he warns Romeo loving to fast is bound to end after Romeo asks the Friar to marry him to Juliet. Friar Laurence is trying to imply that love takes time and that it doesn’t happen spontaneously. Shakespeare is purposely foreshadowing in this scene, clearly giving hints that loves at first sight isn’t real and Romeo’s and Juliet’s relationship is not going to last. For example, The Friar says:

These violent delights have violent ends
And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,
Which, as they kiss, consume. The sweetest honey
Is loathsome in his own deliciousness
And in the taste confounds the appetite.
Therefore love moderately: long love doth so:
Too swift arrives as tardy as too slow.
(II.VI.9-15)
Clearly even the Friar knows their love won’t last. He says it takes time for love to become strong and Romeo and Juliet obviously don’t have time on their hands. Friar Laurence is the town’s priest so he has married couples before, but out of at...

...oice. He is a Montague, Juliet is a Capulet; this will never work. For example, Tybalt ( Juliet’s died cousin who was killed by Romeo) is dead because Juliet chose to marry Romeo. If Juliet stayed away from Romeo Tybalt would have been alive still. Plus Juliet’s only seen Romeo maybe 2 or 3 times, is she really in love? Or is she like Romeo, only in love with his beauty.
Even in the supposed love story of Romeo and Juliet (more like a tragedy), love at first sight is questioned. Juliet’s Nurse and Verona’s priest know their love is taboo and centered on looks. With tones of hints, warnings, and foreshadowing, Romeo’s and Juliet’s “love” will not last long. How would you react if you saw your “true love”? Would you blame Romeo for marrying Juliet “right of the bat?” or would you side with the nurse and the Friar?
