I've learned how to understand the importance of family. This theme can also be seen in the story “A Raisin in The Sun.” Walter seems to think more about himself and how he can improve himself. After a big moment (money being stolen), Walter goes on a ramble on how he will beg the white man for the money. Things change after Walter sees all of his family watching him and decides to stand up for himself and not be humiliated. At the beginning of the play, Walter is frustrated, disillusioned, and resentful, wanting to have a better life. The man said to his woman: I got me a dream." Hansberry 1605. For the most part, Walter had been seen to always be distrustful of them. “Don’t cry, Mama. Understand the need to understand. That white man is going to walk in that door, able to write checks for more money than we ever had. It’s important to him, and I’m going to help him. ..I’m going to put on the show, Mama.” (Hansberry 1641). Walter here seems to be going on a downhill spiral, not able to see himself and just thinking of a quick solution to his failures. Since Walter has already been going through his hardships, losing the money was his breaking point. Even if Walter seems to be losing himself, Walter, as if by some miracle, comes back to make his family proud once more. "And we have decided to move into our house because my father-- my father--- he earned it for us brick by brick... we don't want your money" (Hansberry 1647). Walter, with his eyes finally opened, sees how much his father has done for the family. Walter now realizes how proud this family was, and so he won't just throw it all away right then and now. And so, with just a few words, Walter rejects Lindner's offer and doesn't take the money.
