Imagine not being able to buy a house or have a certain job because of your race, unfortunately for many minorities who have lived here in the United States it has been their permanent reality.Certain groups of people who deprived of the same chances others get and are divided because of their race within institutions such as in schools or on the court. Lorraine Hansberry’s play, A Raisin in the Sun, presents various topics, including institutional racism, which, in America, has not changed from the past to present, based on research on racism in sports and throughout the community.

When it comes to NCAA football coaches, “fewer than eight percent of top coaches in the biggest football programs are black (Yee).” Only eight percent of NCAA football coaches are black because, they aren’t being given equal rights, and they aren’t being trusted by the staff and students because he is black. African American College football coach Ruffin McNeil was fired after having a better winning record than white college football coach Ferentz. Ferentz has been at Iowa for almost 15 seasons while McNeil was just fired after 3.“McNeil, clearly was not treated with the same patience Iowa showed Ferentz”(Yee). McNeil wasn’t given an equal opportunity because he was a different skin color than Ferentz. It is a problem that needs to be solved, as people like McNeil struggle to keep their jobs. Minors aren’t getting equal treatment when it comes to head coaching spots as, “ the main focus should be getting minority coaches hired, not just interviewed.” The Rooney rule in the NFL acts on teams to have to interview minorities for head coaching positions. But since the NCAA is non-profit, this rule does not help any minors in the NCAA.The college sports system is as bad as a system where it’s not as bad as, “people getting jailed and killed, but it’s an apartheid system”(Hruby).An apartheid system is one which discriminates on people of different …show more content…

In the past laws restricted blacks and made escaping the slums and moving into the nice part of town exponentially harder for African Americans.Today there are no racist laws however the workforce discriminates against blacks, pays them less and does not give them the jobs they want. Concluding Sentence: Institutional racism is not as upfront and obvious as it has been historically however many citizens still discriminate against minorities.Today in the present, certain groups discriminate minorities out of jobs, education, and more and this is done where no one can ruin their ways and beliefs on different races besides their own.How the Topic is Still Important Today: Today many different races are still being discriminated against and don’t get equal rights when they should.
