Lorraine Hansberry was born in Chicago on May 19, 1930. She grew up in the Woodlawn of Chicago on the south side. When Hansberry was 8 years old her and her family moved to a white neighborhood. She was bullied by her class mates. She got bullied because she wore a coat one day. She even got beat up for. 1950she moved to New York to work on her writing. She left art to do writing. She then combined art and writing together because it was what she liked to do. She said she put the two love of her life together. On March 11,1959 “A Raisin in the Sun” got to theaters. It was known as a unknown black girl who wrote it. It went around the world in over 30 languages. She didn’t like being called a “rich girl” she was never conferrable getting called by that name. …show more content…

In 1874 schools were segregation. The first outlaw of public segregation was in 1854. Living conditions were very crowded. “Hansberry” and her family moved to a white neighborhood when Hansberry was eight years old, where they were met with violence and hostility.
