At the very beginning of history, the culture and government of early humans was one filled with the barbaric rules of society and the way of life. Living as savages, we wondered the earth and found new places to settle our savage ways. However, since time continued, our culture and society developed into a civilization, but the most important part of our new civilization was the “civil” part. Our culture moved forward and we never moved back. The story by William Golding entitled, “Lord of the Flies” does not follow this push forward in civilization. The plot depicts a group of young English boys being stranded on a deserted island. At the beginning, the young men got along quite well, forming a sort of political government when they vote on their leaders and form way of speaking at their meetings with a conch shell. However as time went on, the boys became savage, killed on another and divided themselves and set fire to their island, only to be found later by a British Naval Officer. In William Golding’s novel entitled “Lord of the Flies” the problems of no adults, followed by competition among boys and the fact that they are young are the main problems that ruined the island they lived on. The first major problem on the island in Golding’s novel “Lord of the Flies” was that there were no adults on the island. The boys voted at the beginning of the story to elect a leader among them. They chose the oldest boy among them, Ralph at the age of twelve. Even at this young of an age, Ralph was elected to govern the boys younger than him. Even if there would have been one adult on the island with them, the boys would not have fought and divided. Jack would not have compared nor had a completion with an adult leader as he did with Ralp... ... middle of paper ... ...boys themselves and the fact that there are no adults on the island are all involved in the downfall of the island as described in William Golding’s “Lord of the Flies”. The lack of no adult on the island leads to the competition among the children or worry of a monster lurking in the jungle. Without this adult the boy’s or mainly just Jack and Ralph fought, leading to the downfall of the island. Then the fact the boy’s or mainly just Jack and Ralph fought because of the competition sought between two males for leadership. Finally, the young age of the boy’s trapped on the island doesn’t help when it comes to believing in monsters or getting their work done. The children on the island had no leadership, no one to look up to, and no one to tell them what to do. Six and twelve year olds made their own decisions, no one this age should be making their own decisions.
