Section 3: Themes One of the themes in this book is that immortality is an illusion. An example of this is when the Grandslayers are getting ready to leave Endura by boat, but Scythe Goddard is furious at the decision that council makes. In the act of revenge, Scythe Goddard causes the boat to malfunction and destroys the council. He destroys the council by coaxing them towards the ocean with a helicopter pretending he will save them, but pulling back at the last second. He leaves them in the ocean filled with sharks and other dangerous deep-sea predators. This shows that even though the council has immortality, they are still human and they will eventually die. Another theme of this book is facing darkness. A way this theme shows in this book is when Scythe Anastasia accepts that there are corrupted scythes. She accepts the fact that there are corrupted scythes in the world, so she accepts the fact and tries to change it. She helps Scythe Curie become HighBlade to try and stop the evolution of corrupted scythes that Scythe Goddard created after he died. Except that didn’t work out as they planned since they were faced Scythe Goddard’s fury from losing. Scythe Goddard attempted to glean everyone on Endura and take over the Scythedom. But Scythe Curie figures out a way for Scythe Anastasia and Scythe Lucifer to survive the attack. …show more content…
