I choose to discuss the long-term effects of makeup on teens and how it affects the skin. In this article written by Dr. Manny Alvarez talks about how makeup can be what’s causing damaging acne; it can also leave your skin damaged for months or even years. Next, he talks about how there was a study done in Brazil; and 45 percent of women who wore makeup daily had some type of skin disease that was linked to making up. Next, in certain kinds of makeup they put chemicals that have been linked to infertility and forms of cancer. Imagine your loved one in a life threatening situation because they put their favorite foundation and concealer on to feel beautiful for the day.We as consumers of makeup products are “trusting” these big companies and corporations, that has been permitting damaging chemicals to go …show more content…
Looking at this article in the eyes of a person who wears makeup pretty regularly this information makes sense.I first started wearing makeup at the age of 16 because I was in cheerleading all four years of high school that was part of wearing the uniform; so I remember putting my foundation on and then my eyeshadow and lipstick on. But after lets same a game of some sort I would, forget to take the makeup off my face which meant I fell asleep with it on. Seeing this article on effects of makeup on teens, has really opened my eyes and shown me that it's important to take care of your skin; and not leave makeup on overnight, I was very lucky not to contract Acne Cosmetica. However, in the article considering he is a doctor; I thought maybe he would be telling us on face washes that he has found to be the most effective to the skin, and brands that have not been. Because he is a doctor I felt like he should have explained in further detail chemicals that are put into these products we are using. Conclusively, I didn’t appreciate the way the author said at the end of the article; “Instead of using makeup regularly teens should focus on a healthy skin care
As the process of menarche that transitions a child into a young woman begins and their bodies become more visible and exposed, so do the problems of becoming a young adult. Having perfect clear skin wasn’t always an epidemic for young adolescents. The desire to be beautiful was not always a priority and of the many body projects talked about by Brumberg, skin care was really the first to be supported by middle class parents. Having clear skin was of great social and cultural trend of the time. During this era when blemishes indicated to society that acne was a sign of poverty and uncleanliness, as well as displayed signs of promiscuous sexual behavior mothers did everything in their power to make sure that their youths received the proper face
We all know that cosmetics existed thousands of years ago. Cleopatra used a heavy arsenal of beauty aids to help her shake the foundations of the Roman Empire. Yes, cosmetics and perfumes have a long history, but the consumer industry we live in is relatively recent, a creation of the decades 1890 through 1920. The products hawked in the 19th Century by druggists, perfumers, barbers, physicians, and a colorful assortment of other enterprising individuals were primitive by our standards. Certainly, active ingredients were used with abandon, notably arsenic, lead, and mercury. These were products that really made visible differences, and the consumer was well-advised to be wary of the majority of these mysterious concoctions.

All women wish to look their best on their wedding day, prom, or their ten year anniversary, so it is a makeup artist’s job to fulfil this desire. The art of emphasizing one’s most attractive features by highlighting the inner corner of the eye to brighten the eyes, contouring the cheeks to make the cheekbones appear higher and painting on bold lipstick to form perfect, plump lips make the face appear flawless. Some people do not wear makeup everyday, so when they do, their face can appear brightened and awake, therefore they believe they look wonderful. Although many people are confident in their appearance and do not demand makeup to boost their self-esteem, wearing well-applied makeup will always make someone feel
The social desirability of a tan is a modern phenomenon, beginning in the 1920’s when the French designer Coco Chanel decreed it as a fashion look. The concept of obtaining a tan without going outdoors became increasingly attractive (Aldige). Today’s media influences everyone, but especially young people, to feel like they need to have that beautiful dark skin color to look good. Teenagers, caring more about their social status and appearance, are looking past the obvious risks of skin cancer. Teenagers ages 12 to 17 are visiting tanning salons in record numbers. This trend presents a huge level of concern, as studies have shown that the risk for skin cancer increases when tanning begins at a younger age. With this fad being so popular, teens are always finding themselves at the tanning salons, becoming nice and crispy.
...ently, one may act differently as well with a new attitude and confidence. While makeup is concealing the faults in appearance, it is also concealing the faults in character, which is another myth.
There are over a thousand ingredients that are used in cosmetics that are already proven to be safe for human use. These ingredients can be mixed and matched creating new and unique products. Many people argue that this is not suitable for the demanding market. The craving for "new" and "im...

[Pause] Makeup has always made me feel so happy and brings me joy, and I don't think it is right to look down on anything that brings anyone joy - unless it is illegal of course. [Pause] The important realization about makeup is that no individual needs it. In my teens, I developed an unhealthy relationship with cosmetics. I viewed makeup as a mask because I had such bad redness on my face. Today, at aged 20, I don't use makeup as a mask, but I definitely like to wear liquid foundation. I usually use "Kat Von D Foundation" **shows foundation to class* because it has really good coverage and works great for sensitive skin like mine. Foundation also gives me that "airbrush" effect and it is genuinely a huge confidence boost. After the foundation, I put concealer under my eyes, which is the "Maybelline Fit Me Concealer" **shows class the concealer**. Concealer is a type of foundation that conceals and gets rid of dark under-eye circles. You all can't see them right now on my face thanks to this lovely concealer but trust me… the circles are there. There is some sort of psychology involved here, because when I conceal my dark circles,

Teens are more likely to jump from one acne treatment to another to an effective acne remedy. Applying them too often or in excess could cause dryness, redness, peeling, irritation and can worsen the situation, hence increasing the healing time of the acne.
It is time, at last, to speak the truth about toxic chemicals behind personal care and beauty products. The daily products of an average person consists of face wash, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, floss, toothpaste, and deodorant. Surprisingly, all of these products listed contain toxic chemicals that are harmful to our body. If we use these products to maintain our hygiene, does that mean we are not clean without these products? For example, a common shampoo many people use is Head and Shoulders. However, do we know if the shampoo is cleaning our hair from beginning to end or is it damaging our hair? How often do you read the ingredients labeled on your personal care products and wonder if they are safe to use? More importantly, if you
