Founding the building blocks of the American federal republic on equality for all men, the Declaration of Independence, inspirited the American dream; the idea that grants all inhabitants of the United States, regardless of wealth, social status, or birth, with an equal opportunity to achieve prosperity and seek a light of hope through determination, strenuous work, and initiative. It was this idea of equality under the protection of government that permitted the American nation to embrace its diversity and escalate the public’s unity, responsibility of self-governance, and freedom of moral decision. Yet, it was Locke’s discovery of the social contract that inspired the protection of equality amid the American people under the government.
