Live with Her Dance Dream

747 Words2 Pages

A girl who is an only child lives a hard life. Carmen, who is my cousin, has the same situation as the only daughter. She was the only little girl in my family who was smart and lovely, but life turns on just a few years. My cousin Sunny was born two years ago. As the thoughts of boys always valued over girls in my grandfather’s generation, it still happens on both of my cousins now. However, every challenge is a chance in life. It became an opportunity for Carmen to have a good relationship with her parents, and live with her dance dream. Although I have no brother and sister, I can imagine and feel how the life changed on Carmen. It all started before Sunny was born as Carmen was a high school student. Carmen started to learn different types of music instrument such as piano, and clarinet. She did very well on them because she was born as a person who skilled in the art and her parents were so proud her. However, things changed after Sunny was born a year ago. Her parents, especially my uncle, started to become a bipolar parent. Other family member like me has noticed certain coolness between them. Her father always kept his distance. One day, Carmen failed her piano test, which was a very important step to master her piano skills. Although I didn’t know what happened to Carmen and her parents, my uncle’s frigid glance made me afraid for a few weeks. When Sunny arrived in this world, Carmen was very exciting because everything changed. However, she did not enjoy a new brother in her family after all. Since Sunny was only born for few months, my uncle got too excited about having a son in his family. Carmen felt that her parents were not cared about her, so she tried to build up her music skills and study music theory. My uncle told me that he had made a right decision to have Carmen as his daughter. “Yes!” Carmen yelled after her performance. She never felt so alive before, and so thankful that her parents accept her dream and future. She finally realized that her parents are supporting, and still caring about her. "When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” by Viktor E. Frankl. Although everyone has different destiny, I think encouragement from someone will inspire all the people. Also, my cousin’s experience had educated and inspired me that people need pride and recognition from others, and challenge ourselves will lead us to a great success. To sum up, pride, hard work and praise always stimulates us to make greater efforts for our dreams.
