This study was conducted in hopes of increasing academic performance in a core English class with my Literacy Extension students. The students in this classroom were diverse and required extra support in reading and writing. Due to the different strengths each student held in learning, it was difficult to have one method to teach the skills that were needed for their english Core class. Rheingold et al (2013) understood that “there is no single strategy or tool that provides the answer to effective instruction”, but they believed academic notebooks (interactive notebook) are a key resource for supporting a diverse classroom. However, the novelty of the notebook wore off on some students, making it difficult for full engagement. Due to this, I feel the interactive notebooks did not fully impact every student as I had anticipated. During the first several lessons, students did enjoy the activities and being able to draw, color, and doodle on their side of the notebook. As time progressed, some of the students stopped doing their side of the interactive notebook. In the student survey, some students indicated that it took up the time they needed for other activities they needed to do. I believe part of this was also the lack of lessons that were taught with the interactive notebooks. I was only able to do one lesson per week, which seemed to be a hassle on the students. If the lessons were done on a daily basis, the students might have gotten used to them and applied themselves more. It helps me to better define the areas that need improvement in my research skills and how to improve on gathering data. This research has given me the confidence to move forward with more action research plans, especially for the use of interactive notebooks in secondary education. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.” This verse I hold true, for the simple fact that God gave me the strength and perseverance to move forward without fear of failure. Deborah Brandt, in " Sponsors of Literacy", argued that class and race can impact how much access a person has to literacy sponsorship. She spoke of Raymond Branch and Dora Lopez who both lived in the same area, but due to their uncontrollable circumstances, had different amounts and forms of literacy sponsors. As I read this article I found myself between both Branch and Lopez's situations. I agree with what Brandt said and for that reason I will be joining her in the argument. I'm currently a freshman in college and one of the classes I am enrolled in is philosophy. One of the things we have been going over is deductive arguments and whether they are valid and sound. For this assignment, I completed a survey to assess my school’s literacy program by using a survey that was adapted from by Patty, Maschoff, & Ransom (1996) to analyze the instructional program and the school’s infrastructure. To be able to answer my survey, I needed to go colleagues of mine in the English Department and to my administration to help with these questions. Being a math teacher, we hardly ever discuss the literacy and the students’ acquisition of it in our department meeting during staff development days. Since I am not truly current with literacy acquisition in education, I am hoping to understand more from this process so I can help all my students. I want them to be able to read texts related to math and find information that will be useful to them during the year.
Literacy sponsors “are powerful figures who bankroll event or smooth the way for initiates” (Brandt 167). Literacy sponsors are people who help to shape who we are in the future. They provide their skills to help us learn or better understand ideas and abilities. Anyone can be sponsor, as long as they help influence a person’s understanding or knowledge of certain concepts or ideas. “In whatever form, sponsors deliver the ideological freight that mist be borne for access to what they have” (Brandt 168). Everyone has literacy sponsors, we may not realize it at first, but thinking back on my life I have thought of a few literacy sponsors who have helped shape me into who I am today.

One obvious alternative, which would thrill many teachers, would be to replace pens, pencils, paper, and the like with computer systems of one sort or another. Estimations have been made that computer systems at the school could be provided for as little as $800 per student including Internet access and basic maintenance. ('Computing Edge';, John Beecham, 1997) This approach would have many advantages, including the fact that our schools would be releasing children with at least a basic knowledge of how to operate a computer system, this in turn would make it much easier to learn to operate other, more complicated and more advanced systems, which would give our students needed job skills in today's information age.

English Language Learners (ELL) require thoughtful and careful instruction for both reading and writing education. Both of these skills are necessary for a bright future and to be a functioning citizen in Canada. Those that do not possess considerable literacy levels will be effectively 'locked out' from so much knowledge, information and ideas that are part of the culture of society (Christie 1990, 20). Having a low level of literacy usually means acquiring an unskilled job. The relationship between literacy levels and poverty is something that should not be ignored (Gibbons, 2002). Developing literacy skills in ELLs is a daunting task and especially with students that have not developed those skills in their first language originally. Through the Curriculum Cycle and proper scaffolding of writing strategies, this paper will provide a lesson plan that will help develop an ELL's writing skills. It will include many different tools that will help students gain an understanding and confidence of the narrative writing form.

While I believe every child is a reader, I do not believe every child will be enthralled with reading all the time. All students have the capability to read and enjoy reading, but just like any other hobby, interest will vary from student to student. The students in my classroom will be encouraged in their reading, be provided with choice, taught how books can take you into another world but, my students will not be forced to read. This paper will illustrate my philosophy of reading through the theories I relate to, the way I want to implement reading and writing curriculum, and the methods I will use motivate my students to read and help them become literate.

It should be up to the students on it they want to use the old fashion pen and paper or this new technology.
This gives me a bigger trust in God and how He is unchanging. Also, the Bible is proven scientifically to be accurate. It can be used as a reliable source for anyone in doubt of who God is. Most people in our world today will listen to scientific fact, so by knowing that the Bible is fact, more can be led to God. By reading this article, I learned to respect those who were chosen by God to help in the advancement of the Bible.
New Testament Survey shaped me into a better person because it helped me understand my faith. I always grew up with my faith, I was never taught to challenge my beliefs and myself. Through this class I learned to ask questions because through questions you can strengthen your own understanding. Doctor Sim is always so caring and so sweet. He genuinely cares about each and every one of his students, I believe that is why I did as well as I did in this class. Doctor Sim made me interested and he made me want to become a better person each and every class. There was never a class when I didn’t walk out in a good mood and ready to put the lessons into practice.
