The song Linus and Lucy was written by Vince Guaraldi, It was released on December of 1964, on the album “A Boy Named Charlie”, but it wasn’t heard by the public until the next year. This could be considered as Vince Guaraldi’s most recognizable song, and is featured on almost every Charlie Brown Special made since it was first broadcasted on the television special, “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. This song has been heard all around the world, but very few people actually know the name of the song. Almost anywhere someone can play this song and there will be people that could recognize it. Anyone who knows who Charlie Brown is, and has watch Charlie Brown T.V specials will be able to recognize this song. It has been played all over the world. It is so widely heard that it even has been played in outer space on the STS-123 mission, But very few actually know the name of the song or the person that made it. This shows how …show more content…
popular this jazz composition is. It is so recognizable that the name has become irevalent. The T.V show of Charlie Brown is the reason for this. The television show worked as a way to promote the song. The very first thought that comes to my mind when hearing this song is Charlie Brown. This television show is very popular among people of all ages, So when the song Linus and Lucy became the main theme song for Charlie Brown everyone started to associate this song with the show, but this didn’t happen overnight. It took many more charlie brown specials to be made so that it could be associated with the show. It is a very common practice for producers to use music to enhance their shows. They usually find a song that goes along with the theme of their show and use it as their theme song. For Charlie Brown “Linus and Lucy” is the theme song. Songs have bemome a very important part to makeing visual entertainment; like movies, commercials, or T.V shows. Songs help enhance these forms of entertainment. Songs like Linus and Lucy help portray the mood that the producer wants to convey to us. If a movie shows a scene from a horror movie the music will reflect on that by being more dark and scary. If the show is a happy uplifting one, then the music will portray that to its audience. For Example the show Charlie Brown and the song “Linus and Lucy”. “Linus and Lucy” is a very fast tempo song. I would say that it has a very rich, joyful mood to it, this explains what the producer wanted to show us; but Linus and Lucy did a lot more than just set the mood for the Charlie Brown specials. It also helped motivate famous Jazz performers. David Benoit is a Jazz pianist that liked watching the Charlie Brown shows. When Charles M. Schulz died, the creator of the Charlie Brown comic strip, Benoit wrote an album devoted to him. This shows that Benoit was influenced by the Shows, and comic strip when he was a little kid. The song Linus and Lucy is a Jazz composition whose main instrument is the piano; David Benoit is a Jazz pianist. So the fact that he wrote an album devoted to the creator of Charlie Brown shows that Vince Guaraldi’s jazz style must have influenced him as a young boy. Along with Charlie Brown, Leonard Bernstein also influenced David Benoit. George Winston, another pianist, was also a fan of Charlie Brown. He would watch every new Charlie Brown special just to hear Vince Guaraldi’s music. When the special “A Charlie Brown Christmas” aired on television, George Winston bought the Album that went with that special the following day. As George Winston progressed in his career he wrote an album called “Linus and Lucy The Music of Vince Guaraldi”. This album had many of the songs heard on the Charlie Brown Specials including the song “Linus and Lucy”. Ever since Winston was 16 years old Charlie Brown has influenced him as a pianist. “Linus and Lucy” is one of the main songs on the first T.V. special that Winston saw. Charlie Brown wasn’t the first to influence Winston to play the piano, but he was one of the first. Once Winston had established his career he said “I love his melodies and his chord progression” Guaraldi was an influence to many people, even more people than what I could write. He inspired many people big and small, including me. Vince Anthony Guaraldi is the pianist that wrote the song “Linus and Lucy”. He was born on July 17, 1928 in San Francisco California. He began his career playing at weddings, and high schools when he was in college, but he first started playing the piano at age 7 when his mother would give him piano lessons. Guaraldi was a Jazz pianist, He achieved many accomplishments throughout his career. His first great accomplishment was when he filled in for, another famous Jazz pianist, Art Tatum. Later he formed a trio made up of a piano, bass, and drum. With this trio he had his most successful achievement; Writing songs for the Charlie Brown specials. After the famous special “A Charlie Brown Christmas” Guaraldi’s Fame rose higher than ever before. This was his first special to perform, but it wasn’t his last. He later did 15 more Charlie Brown specials. His last television special to feature his music was “It’s Arbor Day Charlie Brown” It was broadcasted a few weeks after his death. Guaraldi died of a heart attack at age of 47 on February 6, 1976 in a motel room. He had just finished the last recording for the T.V. special that very same day. When he died, they had to find someone else to make the music for the show, but nobody was able to compose music the same. He became the signature theme for charlie brown specials. Many people liked his music and looked up to him. They couldn’t see another person playing for Charlie Brown, because Guaraldi made his music so different from everyone that it was difficult to replicate. A future artist, George Winston, would watch Charlie Brown as a kid just to hear him play. Guaraldi’s Personality somehow transmitted into his music. He would wear crazy hats and mustaches. This reflected in his music because most of his songs that he recorded sound happy and uplifting. He didn’t really care what people called him. He was even known as a “Pixie” by some people. This was part of his personality and how he would write his songs. Any song of his that you hear reflects this in it. Vince Anthony Guaraldi was a great person and an amazing piano player. Many people looked up to him, but very few people know who he is. He was the creator behind the Charlie Brown music, a jazz lyricist and singer, John Hendrick one time wrote that “vince is what you call a piano player. That’s different from a pianist. A pianist can play anything you put in front of him. A piano player can play anything before you can put it in front of him.” Linus and Lucy was originally written to be played for a documentary about Charles M. Schulz and the Charlie Brown comic strip. It was to be called “A Man Named Charlie Brown” but then changed to “A Boy Named Charlie Brown”. Mendelson, the same person that directed the Charlie Brown Christmas Special, was going to direct this documentary. He wasn’t planning to use Guaraldi at first, but he did want to have some jazz in the documentary. He asked some friends if they could play for the show but, everyone replied saying that they were busy. Mendelson got the inspiration to use Guaraldi in his documentary when he heard Guaraldi’s song “Cast Your Fate to the Wind” while diving. He called him and and Guaraldi said yes. Latter once the show was a success Mendelson’s friends said that they wished that they wouldn’t have been busy, and that they would have wanted to play in the show. Mendelson thought that his documentary was going to be a success. Before this he had made a very successful television special about the baseball player Willie Mays. So it was natural to think that the Charlie Brown Documentary was also going to be successful, but this wasn’t the case Mendelson tried to sell his documentary to most of the television networks but none of them wanted to buy it. It was a failure, and the show never aired to the public. A year latter was when Coca Cola called Mendelson asking about a Christmas Special about Charlie Brown. Although the Charlie Brown special “A Charlie Brown Christmas” was what made Guaraldi famous, it almost didn’t make it on television like the Previous documentary. Lee Mendelson made a deal with Coca Cola to make a christmas special of Charlie Brown. He was the director and producer of the special, Bill Melendez was the animator, and Guaraldi was the composer. Charles M. Schulz only made the outline for the show. It took them a year to create the christmas special. Which was pretty fast, considering that Mendelson thought that they may not be able finish it on time. Once they finished it Mendelson and bill thought that they had ruined the show. They believed that it didn’t meet the expectations that Coca Cola had. The people at CBS didn’t like the show either. They didn’t really understand the jazz music. CBS wanted to cancel the show, but it was already too late. It was already listed on the T.V. guide. So to remove it from the guide would be even more difficult and costly than if they would have just left it. The people at CBS had no choice but to air the show on December of 1965. It turned out that the show was very successful. During the time that the show was on forty-five percent of the people watching T.V. where watching the special. Almost everyone liked the show and the music. The Washington Post even wrote “Credit must go, also, to Vince Guaraldi, who composed and conducted a delightful score.” Without this I wouldn’t be able to be writing a report about this song. This show even though it almost didn’t air promoted the song “Linus and Lucy”. Linus and Lucy is a very special song. It is the song that dominated Guaraldi's other songs. More people know the song Linus and Lucy then the other works done by him. This is the song that is recognized by many people all over the world. It has became one of the songs people look forward to hear during christmas. It has became more than just a song for Charlie Brown. It became a motivator for artist, and a christmas classic. Every year around christmas time you can hear this song on the radios, and sometimes in commercials. This song to many has became Charlie Brown. It is also different from the other songs made by Guaraldi because of how it was first performed. According to The Wall Street Journal this song was first performed over the phone. During the time that Guaraldi and Mendelson were making the Documentary about Charles M. Schulz and Charlie Brown. One day Guaraldi called Mendelson and told him that he needed to show him a song. Mendelson responded by saying that he would prefer to hear it in person. But Guaraldi said “I got to play for you before I forget it!” The song that Guaraldi played over the phone that day was Linus and Lucy. Without Linus and lucy life would literally be way different.
Because of Linus and Lucy christmas specials became more common. Before this time christmas specials were rare. There was only one other special at that time which was “Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer”. Television shows during christmas would not tell the meaning of Christmas. Because of Charlie Brown there are countless amounts of Christmas Specials. Linus and Lucy has become one of the songs heard during christmas. We all have heard it on the radio during Christmas time. It has became one of the ionic songs heard during this holiday. Linus and lucy has also influenced many people. So without the song we would have less people that do great things. Linus and lucy is a very important song. It is a song that is very popular, but many people don’t know the name of it. It was composed by an amazing Jazz pianist named Vince Anthony Guaraldi. With his music he influenced many people, and helped start the Charlie Brown specials. The first show that reached the public was “A Charlie Brown

Lewis and Clark Expedition, also known as the Corps of Discovery Expedition, was the first American overland exploration of the American West and Pacific Northwest, departing in May, 1804 from St. Louis on the Mississippi River, making their way westward through the continental divide to the Pacific coast and ending in September 1806. The expedition was commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson and guided byf Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. The exploration covered a total of about about 8000 miles round trip, from St. Louis to the Pacific Ocean. Jefferson trusted in the existence of a Northwest Passage, a water way between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The main goal of the expedition was to locate this Northwest Passage and plan its potential as a waterway for American westward expansion and commerce. Although Lewis and Clark did not find this route, the expedition succeeded in making peaceful contact with Native Americans and uncovering a wealth of knowledge about the peoples, geography, plants, and animals of the western United States. This expedition was an overwhelming amount of work in both preparations and the expedition itself and given the aftermath and achievements was not all for nothing.
Was George to harsh or too fast with his decision to kill Lennie? Ever since Lennie was born he has needed help “living” and it started with his aunt Clara. When his aunt Clara died Lennie needed someone to help him with his everyday life and someone that could be there and tell him what to do. Lennie starts to travel with a good family friend George. In the book “Of Mice and Men” there is many cases where Lennie just “holds on” to George. George realizes in the end of the book Lennie has done too much harm and needs to essentially go away. George then shoots Lennie in the back of the head because Lennie couldn't live on his own if he were to run away from Curly and the rest of the gang of workers coming after him. George did the right thing because Lennie was unstable and George knows lennie didn't mean to harm anything. He doesn't know his own strength and George really wasn't qualified to help Lennie learn that he is powerful beyond measure.

Themistocles contribution to the defence of Greece was more significant than any other Greek individual. To what extent do you agree?
If someone’s actions are truly innocent, why must someone kill him? Lennie has never done something to inflict pain everything has been unintentional. Lennie was a strong young man, but with a mental illness. Lennie made multiple mistakes, he was murdered and it affected a lot of people including the killer.
The novel Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck, contains many characters that would significantly change the plot if they were not there to be in it. One of these characters is Curley. Curley is a minor character who plays a large role. He is like the bully of the story and is the cause of many of the events that take place on the ranch. There are multiple ways that the story would change if Curley was non-existent.
Langston Hughes was born on February 1, 1902 and died May 22, 1967. Among many of his other accomplishments, Hughes was primarily known for his contribution to Jazz music in the early 20th century. His colorful, artistic, and descriptive works of literature was published and sold all throughout New York City, making him a contributor to the Harlem Renaissance movement as well. Interestingly enough I got the chance to attend a Jazz band performance by the Jazz Big Band at Westfield State University. This band showcased multiple different styles of Jazz such as swing, cool, experimental, and big band. They also played a lot of blues music, which is its own genre but incorporates Jazz elements into the songs. When observing the performance and reading a few of Hughes poems I can see that there are a few parallels between the two, such as repetition, race collaboration and rhythm.
Charles Lindbergh, an American aviator, flew solo over the Atlantic Ocean, fought in WWII, received many awards, and had been happily married to Anne Morrow Lindbergh for 45 years when he died in 1974 (Ferrara). Through his accomplishments as both a pilot and a soldier, Charles Lindbergh became an American legacy.
Many of his pieces consisted of long melodic lines, lack of space, and dense harmonies. An example of such a musical piece would be his most notable song entitled Donna Lee. Although that song is still a jazz standard until this day, Davis still needed work when it came to his composition skills which all changed when he met Gil Evans.

The music created by the legendary Scott Joplin can be heard everywhere around the world even to this day. Many of his works are immediately recognizable to millions of people, including myself. I was not even aware that I knew any of Scott Joplin’s masterpieces but I certainly did. The composition entitled The Entertainer has been featured countless times in movies and games that I have experienced and its catchy beat was cemented in my mind (IMDb). Joplin was the king of the ragtime musical genre, and his name is synonymous with that period of music.
The next song played was “River” which is originally by Joni Mitchell. This song included the beautiful vocalists Sonya Kitchell and Amy Keys. “River” took a very different approach and was a lot mellower than the first, definitely not in the jazz fusion genre. Although, jazz fusion is my favorite I do have to say Herbie Hancock originally started off with classical music and like I mentioned before was not introduced to fusion until joining Miles’s band. This being said, Herbie Hancock played very slowly and softly in the piano. And everyone else followed the same
