In the movie its shows Lincoln trying to pass the 13th Amendment to the on the constitution of slavery. One thing about the movie is that the characters look very similar the people they play. Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln, Tommy Jones as Thaddeus Stevens, SallyField as Mary Lincoln and David Strathiirn as William Seward. The acting was incredible, Daniel Day-Lewis played an excellent part. The movie is 2 hours and 25 minutes, long but didn't seem like it. Besides the amazing acting and scenes, the most important thing to know is that it is a fiction story. Almost all

I love Abraham Lincoln’s story so this was an easy read, so I believe if your liking is similar to mine, you should honestly check this book out. Detail that helped me understand the book better was that John Wilkes Booth was an actor, and he performed at Ford’s theatre, and on his day off was when the assassination took place. In conclusion, I do not believe this book is for everyone, but if you like to dig deep into American culture, check out “Chasing Lincoln’s Killer” because Abraham Lincoln’s assassination was a pivotal component to not only the Civil War, but to American History.
...k, The Real Lincoln, was written to change one’s ideas about the man that Abraham Lincoln really was. Lincoln is very often regarded as the man who fought to end slavery and secure the rights of man. However, DiLorenzo makes strong arguments that Lincoln did not fight the war to combat slavery, and only wanted to expand the size of the federal government. DiLorenzo uses numerous sources, including comments Lincoln himself made, in order to prove his point. The Real Lincoln will forever change the image that has been established regarding Abraham Lincoln.
The star system was an important part of the Studio System in classical Hollywood cinema. From the 1910s, stars were born. Studios create new personas, new names and new backgrounds for the stars. A new image, whether or not it had anything to do with how the person really was in real life, would be invented for the new stars. The stars would be distinctively different and moviegoers would be able to recognise them individually. The Hollywood studios, that the stars are under contract with, managed their publicity, roles, lifestyles and even fan clubs. During the classical Hollywood period, the stars themselves did not have much say in the films that they appear in. The companies would choose the role they deem most suited to boost their popularity.
David Herbert Donald's Lincoln is a biography of our sixteenth President, Abraham Lincoln. At the age of twenty one, he was sure he did not want to be like his father Thomas Lincoln, an uneducated farmer, so he left his fathers house permanently. He had many jobs, learned many lessons, and made both friends and enemies, all which helped him to become one of the greatest presidents of the United States of America during the time the country had split, the Civil War. Thoroughly researched and excellently written, this biography comes alive and shows us what really happened during the early to mid-nineteenth century and it still puts us in the point of view of our former president, using the information and ideas available to him.
The film The Liberator portrays the life of Simon Bolivar, an influential activist in the revolutions against the Spanish Empire in South America. The movie does a great job in displaying the many aspects of Simon Bolivar, what he stood for and the way he felt towards his people. Like the majority of films this The Liberator has its flaws.
Lincoln is a riveting movie on the true events leading up to the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment and the end of the Civil War. Lincoln is directed by Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis starred in the movie as Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln is based on the book Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Lincoln was nominated for twelve Academy Awards. Daniel Day-Lewis won Best Actor in a Motion Picture at the Golden Globe Awards. Despite all the good praise for Lincoln, there was still some criticisms about the Lincoln by movie critics. The movie critics claimed the movie was not completely accurate and was exaggerated. However, even historians agreed Lincoln was a thought provoking movie that would make people look for more information on the life of Abraham Lincoln.
In one scene from the film, you see Mrs. Lincoln giving her husband advice towards the passing of the 13th amendment, and she tells him not to waste his time on a bill that would surely be shot down. I viewed this scene as her trying to help her husband (in her own way) but she was attempting to make sure his reputation and legacy as president was

This war is called the Civil War. The Union army against the confederate’s army fought the battle. This battle began in April 12, 1861 at Fort Sumter located in South Carolina. Abraham Lincoln was the leader of the north also called the Union. He wanted to end slavery in the south because he wanted for every man to be treated equally. Well the south disagree with Abraham Lincoln because the south believe in slavery and they were there own country. So according to that whatever Abraham Lincoln does in the north it would not effect the south. Abraham Lincoln was trying to end slavery by making the Election of 1860. He was going against abolitionist from the south. Well the election of 1860 did not go as plan, the south refuse to end slavery and they could careless what Abraham Lincoln had to say about it. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12th in Kentucky. He was the 16th president of U.S. He tried to preserve the unity of the United States. Lincoln was the president at the time of the Civil War. As Forrest Gump’s famous slogan goes, "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna (sic) get." It cannot be held any truer than during the era of the Cold War (1947–1991). The mighty nations of United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics were the main players. Although the movie shows the 1940’s era leading up to 1980’s the Cold War was a fraction on it. It was not an actual war but more a standoff between two strong nations the United States and Soviet Union. It leads to our involvement in Vietnam, the moon landing, and government scandals. All where illustrated in the movie Forrest Gump. America was changing rapidly not only the people even our government. It showed how policies and people would change the focal point certain decades. Although the events were seen through a fictional character they were accurate in illustrating the mood and emotion of how the world was in those times. While it would be possible for a single person to be present at all of these events, it is unlikely that anyone was, so that part of the film is not true, otherwise most of the facts are true. The differences between the history in the film and real life are mostly small details and are changes made to add Forrest into all of the events. The movie was historically accurate and was able to show how over time in each decade had its own stepping stones. Although not any single person could have actually been at every single event illustrated in the film the possibility of it happening is the base it off the film maker made such reference to many historic events. Forrest’s life is filled with many adventures and historic accounts some that had the power to change the world and make the movie intertwine ...
Unfortunately the main actor of the play was none other then John Wilkes Booth. As a confederate sympathizer and famous actor Booth had a lot of opinions on powers higher than himself and Lincoln just so seemingly turned into a target. Booth had an unexpected plot twist of his own at the play that night. As a lead roll in the play Booth had several clear shots at the president on and off scene, when the time was right for Booth he took action. President Lincoln was shot and killed by an actor with his whole career ahead of him, fortune, fame, work, everything you could ever need thrown away to satisfy your political fantasy of what the U.S. would be like without president Lincoln in office, why would you throw it all away? Booth fled that dreaded night with no fear of being caught as he stowed away in his followers and fellow sympathizers homes on the road to his risky escape out of the U.S. and away from his guilty deeds. Booth was of course eventually caught in time and given needed punishment but the novel’s overall chase for booth was in great detail and had excellent key points allowing the story to be easily
‘Our interest in the parallels between the adaptation inter-texts is further enhanced by consideration of their marked differences in textual form,’
The movie I decided to analyze for this course was American History X (1998), which stars Edward Norton. Though this movie isn’t widely known, it is one of the more interesting movies I have seen. It’s probably one of the best films that depict the Neo Nazi plague on American culture. The film takes place from the mid to late 1990’s during the Internet boom, and touches on subjects from affirmative action to Rodney King. One of the highlights of this movie that really relates to one of the key aspects of this course is the deterrence of capital punishment. Edward Norton’s portrayal as the grief stricken older brother who turns to racist ideologies and violence to cope with his fathers death, completely disregards the consequences of his actions as he brutally murders someone in front of his family for trying to steal his car. The unstable mentality that he developed after his father’s death really goes hand-to-hand specifically with Isaac Ehrlich’s study of capital punishment and deterrence. Although this movie is entirely fictional, a lot of the central themes (racism, crime punishment, gang pervasiveness, and one’s own vulnerability) are accurate representations of the very problems that essentially afflict us as a society.
Gore Vidal’s “Lincoln” was an excellent narrative of the Presidency of Abraham Lincoln. Through Vidal’s portrayal of the personality of Lincoln and the people surrounding him it was easy to get an idea of the leadership role that Lincoln played during presidency. After reading many accounts of Lincoln during my research for my paper, I found that Vidals account was extremely accurate. Most interesting was the commanding yet passive relationship that Lincoln had with the members of his cabinet and his generals. Vidal also gave a portrayal of the capitol during the 1860’s that is seldom mentioned in any of the Literature that I have read. These accounts really help to get a feel for the environment in which Lincoln made his decisions. Lincoln’s family life was also revealed in some detail in the novel which helps us to see the personal dilemmas and tragedies that Lincoln had to overcome while he was president. Overall Vidal’s portrait of Lincoln was interesting and accurate to my knowledge. It gives an extraordinary view of the leadership of President Abraham Lincoln.
