Like Water For Chocolate is a novel by Laura Esquivel. It focuses on the De la Garza family. They live on a ranch in Mexico in the early 1900s. The author uses the literary device, magical realism, to create supernatural elements in a realistic world. Rosaura is Mama Elena's middle child and the sister of tita (the main character). Rosaura is like an ageing fruit, she’s sweet when she’s young, but as she ages she becomes rotten. In the beginning of the story Rosaura is a very neutral character. That is until, Pedro becomes a factor. He wants to marry tita, but Mama Elena won’t let let him because of a lasting family tradition. Pedro ends up marrying Rosaura, which causes one of the main problems in the story.
