The Theme of Lemonade War is to forgive others.Why I thought this was the theme was because they were bored of the war and said sorry to each other and learned not to be mad at eachother. Being mad at eachother would cause more problems. This is why I think this is the theme. The Plot of Lemonade War was when mom told Evan that Jessie is going to be in his 4th grade class which made him mad. Then Evan did a lemonade stand without Jessie which made Jessie mad and caused her to make her own lemonade stand. Evan asked Jessie why she stole the customers away from him which started the war. Jessie put fruit flies into Evans lemonade which enraged him. Evan wanted revenge and found Jessie's money and stole it, later on Evan loses the money. It was even and made an agreement that the next fourth grade class she will not make Evan …show more content…
look stupid. This is the main plots of this story of Lemonade War. The Setting of the Lemonade war is almost everywhere.
The first setting was at their house where the mom told which class Jessie and Evan were going to. The second place is the place Evan was selling his lemonade was at the corner of the sidewalk where he was selling last time. Third place is where Jessie was selling, right across from Evan which stole some of his customers. The place they both go is at Seven Eleven and other supermarkets to get their lemonade. Jessie usually goes to her friends place to play when she feels like it's a good time to sells lemonade. These are the main settings of the Lemonade War. The Character of Lemonade war is Evan. Evan is a character that's always mean to Jessie. An example is when she wanted to help but Evan responded in a harsh way. Evan is also rude to her by saying stuff that aren't nice like saying “you’re just a little kid.” Evan is always Jealous of other people like when he is always trying to compete with Jessie. That’s why there was a war. He is always mad at Jessie because Jessie was going to his class in fourth grade. This is the main character,
Evan. The Internal Conflict of the Lemonade war is when Evan sister, Jessie is going to the same school as Evan which is a internal conflict for him. This affected him by making Evan mad and being more mean to Jessie. After the conflict they agree on something and became brothers and sisters again. The External conflict of the Lemonade War is when Evan is having a lemonade war with her sister which is the external conflict. This war, they sabotage each other. During this time they weren't talking to each other much. After the conflict they missed each other and they discuss about it and weren't enemies towards each other. This is the internal and external conflict of the story.
In To Kill a Mockingbird, the theme plays an important role during the course of the novel. Theme is a central idea in a work of literature that contains more than one word. It is usually based on an author’s opinion on a subject. The theme of innocence should be protected is found in conflicts, characters, and symbols. In To Kill a Mockingbird, a conflict that connects to the theme that innocence should be protected is the death of Tom Robinson.
I am reading tides of war blood in the water by Alexander London. It's about a navy seal who is a dolphin trainer. The book started with him and his brother are surfing and his brother got palled under by a shark and Cory the older brother help him get top. So far the book is really good.
When one thinks about warfare, the average mental picture is usually a movie war scene with soldiers, and planes; very rarely do people think about about the average Joe, trimming his hedge. In the short story “Grace Period”, by Will Baker, there is a man trimming his hedge outside with an electric hedge trimmer when a nuclear bomb is dropped; his wife has gone to get the mail. In “an instant [he felt as] everything stretched just slightly, a few millimeters, then contracted again” (Baker, 1989, p. 7). Although the character does not know what is happening, the reader may realize that this description is a high altitude nuclear burst. The article “Nuclear Weapon Effects”, by John Pike, describes what a nuclear bomb’s effects are and what could happen if one was dropped. Based on clues in the story and the information from the article, the reader can determine what is happening to the man and what he can expect will happen to him.
beginning of the novel, Jeff had percieved war to be short and sweet. He desperately wanted
He tells Greg about his family, about his wife dying. He reveals Greg about how his son left to go with his wife's sister, and how his son went off to war. And while he is talking, Greg can feel the emotions he’s conveying, How important family is too Lemon Brown. This is very important because Greg recognizes the significance of family. Learning about importance of family, allows Greg's relationship with his father to grow, since it was not the best to begin with. You can see this from this exert, "He stood to go upstairs, thought of the lecture that probably awaited him if he did anything except shut himself in his room with his math book, and started walking down the street instead." When Lemon Brown finishes his story, you can see the change in both him and Greg. They begin to care about one another. When Greg is about to leave, Lemon Brown is asking if Greg is fine. Greg learned two very valuable lessons from Lemon Brown.
Prejudice, a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason nor actual experience, is an exceptionally large dilemma in society today. It is an every day reminder of how uncharitable we, as a human race, can be. Even in the early 1900s, as Harper Lee illustrates in her novel To Kill a Mockingbird, prejudiced assumptions have always been causing predicaments. To Kill a Mockingbird, an award winning novel written by Harper Lee, tells the story of how Scout and Jem Finch grows up in a small Southern town suffering through the Great Depression. In To Kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee expresses the theme of prejudice throughout the majority of her characters. Not only does she have many themes in her novel, but she is also able to incorporate them in many of her characters at once. The theme of prejudice is seen through Atticus Finch and Tom Robinson.
The just war theory is described by Thomas Massaro in his book Living Justice as the “principle that warfare might be justified under certain conditions” (108). The complexities involved with international relations makes determining a just war very difficult. Even though historically pacifism hasn’t gained much traction within Catholic circles, it currently is gaining popularity with many mainstream Catholics. With so many differing views on military action, one might ask, “What determines a just war? How can we balance the need for peace with self-defense?” An examination of criteria for a just war and critiques written on this topic might shed light on these two questions.
Morality is hard to define, and nearly impossible to agree upon; however, when it comes to war, there is a single “widely accepted moral theory” that reaches beyond borders . Just war theory, a doctrine originally attributed to the Christian theologian Saint Augustine , postulates that certain circumstances can lead to the justification of war, particularly if war is used to prevent even greater atrocities from occurring in the future. In its fundamental charter, the United Nations even articulates that every state has the right to go to war in its charter. In its broadest definition, just war theory declares that war may be justifiable if the states involved have both jus ad bellum, or just cause, and jus in bello, or just conduct in war;
To start off, Lemon shows that he is proud of his past when he brings up his old profession. Based on the story, when Lemon brings up his old blues career, Lemon says that, “They used to say I sung the blues so sweet that if I sang at a funeral, the dead would commence to rocking with the beat.” This shows that Lemon was great at the blues and is very proud of his past. Also, Lemon shares an amazing part of him with Greg. According to the text, when Lemon tells Greg that Jesse had Lemon’s treasure while in the war, Lemon exclaims, “If you know your pappy did something, you know you can do something too.” This statement shows that Lemon is happy that Jesse got to enjoy Lemon’s past success. To finish up, Lemon shows Greg an interesting piece of his past. Based on the text, when Greg sees Lemons treasure for the first time, he reads, “ [Lemon] had been the hit of the show.” This newspaper headline shows that Mr. Lemon Brown had once been a big hit in the blues industry.
What is innocence? Innocence can be defined in several different ways that include freedom of guilt and sin, total honesty, or lack of worldly knowledge. The story To Kill a Mockingbird takes place during the 1930’s in the small town of Maycomb, Alabama. Loss of innocence is the main theme that is depicted throughout the story. The first way this theme is shown in the story is through the trial of a black man by the name of Tom Robinson. In addition, this theme is shown through two men named Atticus Finch and Arthur “Boo” Radley. The final way loss of innocence is shown in the story is through Scout, Jem, and Dill as they see all the chaos and the morbid experiences that occur in the world around them. The story of all these people describes
The structure of Faulk’s Birdsong allows us to observe the impact of the War upon numerous individuals across the generations. Throughout the novel, even outside the 1914-1918 time-frame, Faulks continues to maintain a link between the past and the present through his use of a number of motifs and themes. The lasting impact of the War suggests that history should never be forgotten, which is the paramount message in Birdsong.
The 1960’s was a time of war and fear for the United States and many people were turning their accusations towards the government. “Masters of War” was written by Bob Dylan in late 1962 and early 1963. The focus of this song is a protest against the Cold War and the Cuban Missile Crisis that was happening during the early 1960’s. The song is protesting on the American government having its citizens live in fear of a constant attack and hiding behind their shroud, unaffected by anything that would happen to the people. It shook the nation with its fierce and angry tone against the “military industrial complex.” Dylan’s lyrics stated that it was not contained by declaring a pointless war and not taking responsibility for the problems it was causing. “Masters of War” is a powerful song against the government and the military. The protest song “Masters of War” by Bob Dylan highlights how the looming aspect of the Cold War affected the people of the United States and demonstrates Dylan’s view on the governments involved.
When a character dies in the beginning of the story, it is not a clear-cut narrative. It is more mysterious and the situation is not clear or determined enough to be something tangible for the reader to grab onto in order to lay out a cohesive narrative. War distances humanity from the soldiers, and Heller uses his satire to make his claim that War is the most inhuman act that is repeatedly seen occurring throughout his...
The war constantly haunts the characters throughout the book. The effects of war are evident in their alcoholism and their unconscious cruelty to each other. It is the war and its effects they are running away from with their continuous drinking.
The books “A Thousand Splendid Suns” and “The Kite Runner” are both written by Khaled Hosseini. The setting of both of the book is in the capital of Afghanistan, which is Kabul. Both books express the themes of betrayal, discrimination, and also redemption; but both novels depict the themes and characters in different ways. Even though the main characters are very much alike.
