Prostitution has been traced back to centuries ago and is one of the most controversial issues of the present time. Over time, prostitution have been legalized in many places, causing an increase in the number of brothels all over. There are male prostitutes but they are not as prevalent as females neither are they viewed in the same likeness as females. Unlike males, females are generally are likely to be enslaved in the lifestyle. Should it be legalized is the question that people are asking the government. Advocates for legalizing prostitution have come up with the idea of turning prostitution into a real occupation for the benefit of the state and prostitute. The exploitation business is booming and is making sex trafficking even more difficult to stop. Donna M. Hughes gave a speech opposing legalization of prostitution in Italy of 2004, and why it shouldn’t be legalized. Her argument was concentrated on the negative effects that it has on women, and the demand for sex trafficking. Christine Guttery who attends LSU, wrote an article affirming and addressing some of the same viewpoints in Hughes speech against legalizing prostitution. Take for instance the legalization of marijuana in some states, has not help the illegal drug problem. More people smoke marijuana than ever body before in those places that has legalized marijuana. In the same aspect legalizing prostitution is going to demand more supply. Men who wouldn’t be involved in paying for sex may get tempted to do so if it is legal. At the end of the other stick is women who are forced into prostitution resulting from the demands increasing through legalization. If we as a society legalize prostitution everywhere, what’s stopping people from trying get to all kinds of immoral things legalized. These kinds of proposed laws have negative impact and distort out views on what’s moral and immoral. We don’t want little girls saying when I grow up I want to be a prostitute. Adults can make rational decisions for themselves but this law would take away women rights as it already has. Exploiters could not be stop completely just like drug traffickers can’t. If we want women to be safer and kids the real answer is not legalization but to stop organized crime groups and corrupt police who sponsors human
