Human services play a very important role on the human society. Human Services is the approach that shows effectiveness of meeting human needs. These needs focus on prevention and remediation and maintaining life issues. Human services also help maintain a commitment to improve the quality of life. “Human service professionals support the trust that implicates and helps relationships by avoiding dual relationships that may impair professional judgment to others” (Murphy, Bianca & Dillon, 2010). Human service professional properly assist individuals as well as communities in order to function as effective as possible to maintain a healthy sustainable environment. professional shows character, shows you take pride in your work, and yourself. Dressing neat, and having clean clothes shows you take time out to care for yourself. Dressing neat, shows a better impression of yourself to others. Appearance is very important in any type of workforce. “Clinicians often use physical appearance such as style of dress, demeanor, and hygiene all as indicators that a professional has the ability to care for themselves” (Murphy, Bianca & Dillon, 2010). Body language also sets an important message about someone as well. For instance, a person who walks around the workforce with a smile makes others feel more comfortable. Facial expressions, and body posture all make professionalism in a workforce. “It is important to try and sit with seated patients, stand with standing patients, and walk alongside pacing patients” (Murphy, Bianca & Dillon, 2010). All these strategies can make a person feel more comfortable, especially in situations where a client may disagree of being there. It is very important that all of these characteristics are applied when working with clients who may disagree or cause uncomfortable tension. It is important, because in our workforce we are going to come in contact with clients that may disagree or cause uncomfortable tension. Clients may disagree, because he or she may have a different view on different things. Some clients do not even want to be encountered with anyone, so it is best to try and assist these clients with the best knowledge, appearance, and respect. Personal values, beliefs, prejudices and stereotypes can both help or harm the helping process. For instance, many people are going to have all different beliefs and values when it comes to human services. It can help the helping process by getting an idea of client’s and other people in the workforce beliefs. Sometimes it can be interesting to learn about other’s beliefs, values, customs, and views. Learning about other’s values and beliefs can educate one another when working with future clients or people. Prejudice and stereotypes can harm the helping process.
Prejudice stereotypes can harm the helping process in many ways. For instance, prejudice and stereotypes are unethical and can break HIPPA violations. We are designed to help assist others who may need our assistance, therefore judging a person is unethical. “Prejudice often leads to discrimination” (Murphy, Bianca & Dillon, 2010). Surrounding this case, ethical and legal issues must be obeyed. For instance, a client’s privacy and confidentiality. It is important to make sure as a professional to follow a client’s privacy and confidentiality. Everything a client tells a professional, it is our job to make sure it stays private. Breaking confidentiality can cause legal issues, or loss of employment. As a professional my obligations would be to acknowledge ethical and legal issues. I prefer to educate myself to understand all ethical and legal issues that could occur. I would educate myself, so I do not have to encounter myself breaking any legal or ethical codes in the workforce. When there is an issue in my workforce I plan on handling it professionally rather than
unethically. I recommend each client to have an open mind. Having an open and positive mind leaves room for opportunity. I also recommend clients to always better educate themselves in any situation. For instance, if a client was not sure of decision to make I would have them educate themselves to a better understanding. If a client were to have a better understanding he or she would be able to make a decision, rather than me telling them what decision to make.
The issue I Journaled about in the course is to reduce falls among the elderly in long term care. In writing my journals one of my focuses is that patient’s dignity can destroyed after falling multiple times by diminishing their independence. Our responsibility as nurses is to inform patients of choices, options for selection, which is why I suggested that patients should be given as much independence as possible with close supervision, and to the best of our ability, inform the patient of the consequences of the choices. Another ethical principle the book explained about is the respect for a person, it is the patients right to choose how they go along with their daily living in long-term care. There are different specializations that fall under this professional spectrum such as mental health, social work, and crisis intervention as well as several others. Dating back to the 1700s, individuals have been providing services and resources to those in need. Although each era may has placed different emphasis on specific areas, the general operation still remained the same. For example, the age of systems era and the professionalization of human services era focused on different issues but yet shared collective objectives.

The human services profession has a variety of populations that they serve; this is a wide array of people. Human service professionals serve populations such as, high-risk mothers who may have shortfalls in education, psychosocial, nutritional, and little or no transportation. Another is the homeless population, lack housing due to being unable to afford, or maintain safe and adequate housing. The elderly is a population that is increasing, there needs range from chronic illness, lack of or little education, mentally, financial, loss of independence, and stereotyping. They serve those diagnose with a chronic illnesses, such illnesses may be diagnoses of , high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, there is also the chronic mentally ill who are consider high risk, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD(attention deficit hyperactive disorder). These are just a few of the services that a human service professional may work with.
