Landscape as a noun is, "a branch of art dealing with the representation of scenery." The word landscape as a verb means, "to adorn or improve (a section of ground) by contouring and by planting flowers, shrubs, or trees” (“Landscape”1). Landscaping is a profession that rearranges and maintains the natural environment to make nature more appealing to the eye. Landscaping is my dream profession because of the different variety of jobs, the amount of education needed, and the typical day on the job.
A landscape architect is someone who rearranges the natural environment to make it visually and physically more enjoyable. Landscape architects design places like parks, golf courses, gardens, and other outdoor places. They make it visually appealing …show more content…

For instance, to become a landscaper or groundskeeper it only requires a high school diploma. If you want to run your own landscaping or grounds keeping business, it would be good to go to college in order to become successful business owner but is not required. Some of the landscaping jobs that need a college degree are jobs such as landscape architect, landscape contractor, and landscape designer (“Groundskeeper and Maintenance Worker “4). There are some licenses need for a groundskeeper. They are sometimes needed depending on the laws of the area being worked on. An example of a license needed is for the use of pesticides. To obtain a license, you will be tested on how to properly go about using these dangerous chemicals such as insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides. There is also a little training needed when it comes to grounds keeping. Most of the training is done on the job. Training mainly consists of learning how to plant and maintain areas. Also learning to uses such tools as lawn mowers, blowers, trimers, and small trackers (“Groundskeeper and Maintenance Worker “4). When becoming a landscape architect there is a lot more education and training that is required. To become a landscape contractor there is no education requirements but many landscape contractors that are good at their job have an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. Most of the injuries that occur on the landscaping job as a groundskeeper come from equipment use. A lot of the time on the job is spent using dangerous equipment such as lawn mowers, chain saws, and weed whackers. Often landscapers are working at great heights when dealing with cutting tress. It is important, when working up high that safety measures are used to decrease the risk of injury. While mostly working outside, you are also at a higher risk of getting sick. Not properly dispensing chemicals like pesticides and fertilizers can cause illness. When these chemicals come in contact with your eyes, skin, nose or mouth, there can be serious reactions. It is important when using these chemicals, that proper protection such as eye wear, protective clothing and a mask be used to reduce the possibility of harm. When it comes to being a landscape architect there is not much of a risk of injury or illness. When you are on the work site with all the equipment, it is always good to be careful.
