INTRODUCTION
This module broadens our understanding on the ways in which buildings are constructed and the purpose of choosing materials and structures for buildings. This module is divided into survey, structure, materials and construction. These are taught specifically through lectures, tutorial exercises, drawings and lab test workshops. The lectures were an explanation of the topics in which our knowledge was put into practice by solving and experimenting questions during tutorials and workshops. By the end of the year, we gained great knowledge on the contents of this module by taking part in this structured order of learning and understanding in workshops and tutorials.
CHAPTER 1-SURVEY
What is a land survey & why is it important at the outset of a project?
A land survey is a detailed inspection and a physical protraction of boundary lines. It is important at the outset of a project for buyers to know the precise boundaries of the land; it also identifies any easements associated with the property, and the problems associated with the land.
Explain the techniques, equipment and processes involved in undertaking a land survey.
This survey involves the process of leveling which is the calculation between the differences in height of two or more points. The equipments used are a tripod, a level, and a staff. These are set up by first unraveling the straps of a tripod in which the legs are extended until the head height is a bit below the top platform. This must be attached firmly to the ground to avoid errors; stepping on the platform of the legs does this. The legs are altered until they are all roughly the same height and the leg screws are done. By using the screw below the tripod the level is attached. ...

CONCLUSION
Conclude the report with a brief personal reflective statement explaining the relevance of survey, structures, materials, testing and detailing in the context of fulfilling a design brief.
From this report, it is clear that a series of steps have to be taken in order to construct or renovate a building. Firstly, a problem is defined and in order to understand this information is gathered through a survey. Once the survey is drawn up, structures are determined. After calculating loads, sizes of structural members are figured. Materials are tested before using them in real life structures, hence creating a safer structure. When everything is on the point, the structure is constructed. In conclusion, this report shows that various factors contribute to the context of a design brief.

We will use this way to collect beach profile because it is the easiest way to find out what we need it is also done this way because it is more accurate and more reliable the more times we do it but eventually it will stop as we only go 50 metres at a time.

The Interior Plains is a region in west-central Canada, in the Mountain and Central time zones. It is the fourth largest region of Canada. Majority of the Interior Plains is prairie land with lots of flatlands. The total area of this region is 1, 900, 000 km². Approximately nineteen percent of Canada’s population lives in the Interior Plains region. This region includes certain points of interests and attractions such as city areas like downtown Calgary and natural sightseeing areas like the Rocky Mountains. The majority of the Interior Plains is prairie land, with many trees and grass. Most of this area is wide, open spaces and flat land. Some of the animals living here include deer, wolves, and
Today in my assignment I will be talking to you about Timber Frame Construction and its Cladding Systems. I will go on to mention its current position, what a Cladding is, I will also give a brief summary of the characteristics of different types of claddings. Also a diagram will be presented will labels of a cladding system fastened onto a timber framed building.
From the years, 1987 to 1991, the West Philadelphia Landscape project was part of collective landscape plan which was established as a “greening” project for the West Philadelphia community. A large team of teachers and students from the University of Philadelphia developed a database that used digital maps of the area neighborhoods as well as designed proposals that would allow the project to reuse vacant land in the Mill Creek area. They used the maps they created to design and strategically place organic gardens all around the Mill Creek neighborhood. These gardens helped replace the vacant landscapes with lush green and vibrants flowers. Others used the lots as a means to create community organic gardens, which allowed residents of the community to come and pick fresh produce free of charge.
The first step to development is to survey the property in order to document and draw the bounds and land surface shapes. The property will be represented by various geometry elements such as points, lines, arcs, circles, and other defined geometry shapes. Surveyors use scope on tripods witch use projection of line Referenced point on a stick in order to measure the variations of the heights on the ground. This tool uses various angel theorems and postulates to find location of property boundaries, property corners, utilities and building layouts on the property. The surveyor uses the data collected to draw the property layout on a 36”x 24”sheet of paper.
In conclusion, the debate between aesthetics and functionalism has been around for a long time. It becomes clear however, through research, that the first thing architects consider is function, and then aesthetics. It is because of this approach that aesthetics becomes somewhat of a by-product of the whole design process. By looking at examples of various buildings, it is apparent that aesthetics is important to structure and in many instances has been successfully coupled with function. But in no circumstance should aesthetics take precedence over the function and practicality of a building. It seems more likely that a happy medium between function and aesthetics can be reached, on a project by project basis, and then applied to the design process of creating the building.
In order to create innovative public architecture, considered to be the most civic, costly, time intensive and physical of the arts, the project holds a degree of risk, strife, and negotiation . Overcoming these tasks and creating worthy public architecture is a challenge designers try to accomplish, but are rarely successful. The people involved in a potential public building, can be larger than the building itself. Public architecture tries to please all, even the doubters and critics, but because of the all these factors, a building is closer to failing than succeeding.
This land was made for you and me. Woody Guthrie is an inspiration for many people across the country. He wrote hundreds of songs, including the famous “This Land is Your Land.” In the 1940s, he wrote songs to help build people up and feel good about themselves. He has two very famous pieces, including an uplifting quote and a song, both very similar and different.
The concept of drastically disturbed lands was split of between two sections: types of disturbances and defining the process of rebuilding. 4 major types of disturbance were outlined, the first on being town, cities, and roadways. These disturbances have high social value so it is very unlikely, that there will be any remediation taking place unless they become abandoned. The second type of disturbance road cuts, fills, and shoulders of roads. Though these disturbances are small on their own, together they make up the largest areas of drastically disturbed lands. The third type of disturbance are mine spoils. Out of all the disturbance, this one receives the most public attention. They take up less space, but they represent the largest amount of damage in their locations. The fourth type is the high percentage of eroded farmland and rangeland. Because this a slow degradation, they often receive very little attention. As for defining degradation, Bow also split this into two possible options: restoration, and reclamation. The author defined restoration as being the exact replication of a site after the disturbance.
In developing this contemporary and iconic building, the design focuses on practical attributes and optimises energy efficiency. The design strategy encapsulates four key aspects:
Abstract: New forms in current world have been testimony to the contemporary style of postmodern architecture and are the strength of today’s generation for creating significant architectural standards. Post modernism has blurred the borders between contemporary and traditional construction classical concepts and simply in the field of art and literature. The architectural elements like domes, arches, and classical shapes have lost their identity but the post modernism tries to bridge between these historical forms and contemporary styles. The related architects not only struggled to achieve the image for the buildings but also rejected oversimplified diagrams for living. The post modernism here tries to achieve theoretical base for their designs that creates the excitement in the design program.
When learning about the field of land development at University’s, students are taking classes that demonstrate skills and thinking. Individuals have to apply planning concepts about problem solving in regional planning. Plus they have to do a demonstration on designs on regional planning and complete independent research and give group presentations. This experience helps prepare the students for the field and great job opportunities.
There are 25 major specialties in engineering that are recognized by professional societies. In any one of those 25 specialties, the goal of the engineer is the same. The goal is to be able to come up with a cost effective design that aids people in the tasks they face each day. Whether it be the coffee machine in the morning or the roads and highways we travel, or even the cars we travel in, it was all an idea that started with an engineer. Someone engineered each idea to make it the best solution to a problem. Even though engineer’s goals are similar, there are many different things that engineers do within their selected field of engineering. This paper will focus on the architectural field of engineering.
