When I started to read Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl I didn’t really know what to expect. After a little bit, the story took a turn that I couldn’t see from a mile away. I wasn’t expecting the story to be so dark. It starts out with Mary waiting for her husband to come home from work, who shows signs of discontent once he arrives. After her explains to Mary that he isn’t happy and he wants a separation, Mary goes into a state of disbelief and goes on like it didn’t happen. When she returns to her husband, he just gives up and tells her he’s going out. Before he gets to the door, Mary hits him in the back of the head with a leg of lamb. The very leg of lamb she was going to make him for dinner. Mary’s husband doesn’t wake up and she doesn’t know what to do. …show more content…

She then devised a plan to go to the store, come back, then call the police like it was the first she knew about it. She created her own alibi, all she had to do was get rid of the murder weapon, which was currently cooking in the oven. The police sympathize with her, especially due to the fact that they worked with him. They showed little suspicion of Mary, which was quickly disregarded. Eventually the lamb was done and Mary brought it out to offer to the working police. They refuse at first, but after a little convincing they agree. While the police were eating the lamb, the entertained the idea that the murder weapon was right under their noses. The very leg of lamb Mary got out to make for dinner. The very leg of lamb she killed her husband with. the very leg of lamb the police were eating, and looking for at the same time. To eat it they put it in their mouths, which is indeed right under their oblivious little
