Throughout time there have been stories and myths about people losing their mind from power. They crave the power of being King, Queen, Prince or Princess but if someone manipulates them into doing horrific things to achieve such states, who is to blame? The person doing the manipulating, or the person being manipulated? Who really committed the crime? Macbeth is a man who has done some deeds in his life that are horrific, but if Lady Macbeth was the one who manipulated Macbeth into doing what she wishes, then that would make her the murderer, not him. In reality Macbeth is the one who has committed the crimes, so he is the one who is responsible. Macbeth realizes that he is gaining more and more power from the king. This is when his downfall begins since he is eager to want to know more about him being a Thane to Cawdor and what other great power awaits him. The King grants Macbeth the accolade of being Thane of Cawdor and states, “Never again will the Thane of Cawdor deceive my trusting heart...greet Macbeth with former title (1.2 Line 73-75).” Macbeth is ironically made out to be a man who is deserving of this title, a man who respected by King Duncan himself but little does King Duncan know that soon his loyal servant will betray him and become a stone cold killer. The witches kept talking to Macbeth and Banquo (Another trusted man of the king’s) and explaining to them that Macbeth will become King. Banquo was explained to by the witches that although he will not be bestow the title of King, but his children will. The 3 witches state “Macbeth, who will be King later on (1.3 line 52)!” After Macbeth had heard this, his thirst for power grew even more. All he wants now is for the witches prophesy to be true.
